15 JULY 2011: Finished the outlines. Only the texture to go now.

14 JULY 2011: Finished the basic lines. Now I'm starting on texture and details. I've also laid down basic guidelines for the outlines to differentiate the different depths and overlapping pieces. Normally I wouldn't do that, but time is of the essence and this picture is fairly complex.

13 JULY 2011: Started the basic lines, and after talking to my professor, I made some changes to the column. So as far as basic lines go, we're about 50% of the way through. In terms of being completely done with the linework... maybe 20%.

11 JULY 2011: Refined the rough sketch, added more indications for intricacies to be added while I ink. Normally I would take more time, but given the time constraints, I'm rushing it.

"What are you doing out here," Arum whispered softly, coming to lean against the rail of the bridge where Hazel sat. The golden orb sitting over the city was slowly growing dimmer, casting an orange-red glow on the ever-present clouds above, drenching the city in warm colors and made everything seem as if it was swimming in blood.

Hazel sighed and rubbed at her dry eyes. "Nothing really. Your sister came to visit and I can't stand her."

"Hn." The fourth son slid closer and decided to look at the sculpted column that blocked most of the light pouring down. "She was probably just making sure I didn't sully the future queen of the light runners."

"That's what I can't stand. She acts as if I'm as weak as all the other women in this city. I'm not a pathetic sh- I'm not a shadow seeker."

"You can say 'shroud'."

"No. I know it bothers you."

Arum couldn't hide his shock, and tilted his head to the side to catch her gaze. "You care what bothers me now?"

"I didn't say that." Hazel narrowed her eyes and looked away, hunching her shoulders like a sullen cat. "It's just the proper thing to do. I'm a guest after all. I ought to be practicing good manners."

"Oh... I see. Right, good manners," he said nodding to himself, "That would explain why you're all dolled up in knickers and skirts."

"Actually, this is because of your sister." She darkly looked down at the intricate lace and embroidery squeezing her insides together. "And while I will admit that it keeps me warm, it's still uncomfortable."

"It certainly looks that way," Arum laughed, tugging on the laces that
held the bodice in place over her stomach. "The color doesn't suit you. I prefer your native clothes."

"Who cares about color?" Hazel angrily asked, shoving his hand away and continuing to pout. "It could be the ugliest color I'd ever seen and I'd still wear it if it was more comfortable than all this."

"Yes... that's right. Who cares what color it is," he said and went back to scrutinizing the column winding into the sky before it branched into a roadway. "Who has time to think about presentation when you have to one day rule a kingdom? Things like looking presentable are for those who actually need to worry about finding a spouse, garnering a good opinion from the public and other unimportant stuff like that."

"You can be a real ass."

"Something we have in common."

Hazel bit her lip. "You're infuriating. I hate having to deal with you and being made to look like an idiot every five minutes because of you. You're this horribly fakey nice person to everyone else and just... really mean to me. I know I deserve it sometimes but otherwise it just feels like you're really crossing the line."

Arum sighed. "Is there a point to this?"

"BUT," she continued, "you're the only one who actually cared when my family abandoned me, and you're the only one who said what I needed to hear when I found out how deeply my sister betrayed me. You frustrate me sometimes, but I don't hate you. And... I don't resent King Alisier's decision."

"So, what you're saying is that you sort of, kind of like me?"

"I'm saying," Hazel said as she grabbed his coat lapels and roughly pressed her mouth against his, nipping at his lower lip, "that if I had the option, I'd choose you. And when I come to your room tonight, I'm hoping you won't shove me out."

"In my defense, I thought you were trying to kill me."

"I was. You insulted me."

"You DO know it's very frowned upon to copulate before the official ceremony is performed, don't you?"

"Not in my country. Once the engagement is announced 'copulation', as you put it, is totally allowed. The ceremony is a formality anyway."

"Not in this country, of which you are soon to be a citizen," Arum sighed, but still put his hand on her waist. "And I'll still kick you out of my room, but it doesn't mean I don't want a marriage with you."

Hazel pulled him closer and rested her chin on his shoulder. "You are either the more disciplined man I know, or you're a eunuch."

"I'll pretend that was a compliment."

Sorry to dissapoint, I went with The Shrouded Kingdom. I just couldn't resist the fluff in this picture anyway

I tried Of Demons and Nakai, but the angle just really wasn't working.

So here we go, comments and critique are welcome, it'll be updated as I work on it.
