Description Good lord, I haven't made a stamp in forever. I'm fixing that right now.

Few things are more obnoxious than people advertising themselves on somebody else's page. So please don't do it. It's rude, it's spam, and nobody likes it.

Yea I hate it when people come to say "Thanks for the +Fav!"

It's especially irritating whenever you make it absolutely clear that you do NOT want to be thanked, and people do it anyway.

That never used to annoy me before, but yeah, it can be irritating.

And don't even get me started on point-beggars...

Ugh! I know.

On a dA group for my website, some jackass decided it would be a good idea to advertise their site. People are so inconsiderate.

Agreed. I hate that people would even consider using someone else's page to pimp their own galleries. It's really annoying and even pathetic.

Thanks!

That IS rude!
Did someone try spamming your page recently?

YouHaveAShortMemory In reply to TheJenjineer [2011-01-12 13:44:05 +0000 UTC]

Not recently, though it has happened to me a few times. Though it's nowhere near as common as it used to be for me, I still see a lot of people getting flooded with messages from complete strangers asking people to give them points or llamas, or saying something like, "Hay can u check out my gallery plz". That's mainly what this stamp is referring to, and I really dislike it. I know I'm not alone.

I only got that once, I think. I lied and said "Sure, if I have time" and never did.

The best way to deal with those messages is to ignore them completely. Speaking from experience, giving them what they want will only make them spam you some more.

When I saw the thumbnail, I was worried. Thankfully this doesn't apply to me.

Don't worry, you're safe. What I'm specifically referring to are these people who simply use another deviant's page as an excuse for advertising their own galleries, telling people to vote for them in some contest, or give them points, made all the more annoying by the fact that they have had no prior contact with them.

Thanks for including the link. Never made a stamp but everyone seems to like them.

I can't say that I've seen people advertising themselves on other peoples' pages before, but it doesn't surprise me. I understand the need for publicity but I'd feel kind of low shoveling my own product on someone else's space.

You're welcome. They're really fun and surprisingly simple to make, as long as you have the right programs for it (I use GIMP for all my stamps, but a lot of other people use Photoshop).

Yeah, it has happened before. What I'm mainly referring to here, though, are these people who beg complete strangers to give them stuff or check out their galleries. Back in August, I think, I remember getting flooded with a bunch of messages from people I had no prior contact with asking me to give them points. And it hasn't only happened to me; there are plenty of other users who got spammed by random beggars.

It's surprising how many stamps you find out there. Actually, I think you've made quite a few yourself. I remember looking over your gallery a while back and good number of things made me laugh but were very short. Using my shoddy deductive reasoning (or would this be inductive?), I can only guess they were stamps.

Wowzers, that's weird. I'd be even more embarrassed asking for points than views. Did they at least give you a Llama or add you to their DevWatch? At least show some dignity by making it more of an offer and less of a...well, begging. Every time I see one of those Point Donation Pools, my skin crawls just a little bit.

Yes, I have! I don't know if my stamps are quite as good as most of the others I've seen on this here site (I remember ~hontokokoro in particular had some really good ones in her gallery), I'm still kinda proud of 'em.

Well, most of them would bribe something else in return for giving them points. So, yes and no. It didn't really make it any less annoying, though.

It's not the Donation Pools themselves that annoy me; it's more or less the people who abuse them that do.

Honto REALLY likes stamps. I think a few of their stamps actually denote their crippling obsession with stamps while others say that they aren't going to make any more stamps . Stamps don't give you a lot of room to work with though, so it's not like it's easy to make them; let alone good ones. As long as your content is meaningful, your stamps will be more than good in my book.

Well, at least they're making an effort when they beg. Still, seeing most of the Donation Pools seems like somebody sitting at a table with their mouth open with a sign reading "Feed Me!" There are some that actually make good return-on-investment offers but most don't seem well thought-out and come off as bothersome.

I guess you're right. Truth be told, as popular as they are (usually more so than my normal stuff) I'm growing less fond of my stamps, but a lot of people like 'em, so I'll keep 'em up. I might make more soon once I hone in on my stamping skills...

Well, I do try to put meaning into my stamps, so I'm glad they succeed in that regard.

That's a pretty good analysis of how the people who use donation pools can be sometimes. They often come off as annoying and greedy. I admit I have one on my page, but I genuinely try not to come across as a greedy desperate jerk. Some people don't.

I'm not too big on stamps myself but I know a lot of artists do fan art/requests/etc to get their name out there. The ones I've seen do pretty good work and it normally makes me want to check out their real stuff. So when you're making stamps, at least it serves a purpose.
