The second worst scientific name ever after T.rex.

How is Tyrannosaurus rex the worst scientific name ever? I can think of many that are worse. Basilosaurus, Thalassodromeus sethi, Argentinosaurus, etc.

Yeah, Thalassodromeus sethi is WAY worse. But T. rex is pretty bad.

How so? I mean the species name is a bit shorter than I would like, but there's isn't anything wrong with the name as far as I can tell (...well, "...saurus" but the majority of dinosaur scientific names have that so Tyrannosaurus isn't any worse than the rest of them).

It puts the animal on a pedestal that does not exist in real life.

Oh, so you take issue with the species name, then? Eh, I suppose, but then there are plenty of names that do that, and there's no real problem like relating it to a completely unrelated animal, a lifestyle it didn't have, or being justΒ plain uninventive (this is particular drives me mad). There are many that are way worse.

Acepredator just has an extreme hatred for tyrannosaurs. It's a bias on his part.

no, this is not just a problem with T. rex, but T. rex has had the most impact in the paleontological community due to its name.

It was the apex predator in it's environment....by far. this makes it a tyrant king of it's own environment.

I think you nailed it. IMHO most depictions of feathered dinosaurs have suffered from not only bad interpretation of anatomy, but also an excess of ugly. This is not only the most realistic depiction of Oviraptor I think I've ever seen, it's also effing gorgeous.

I LIKE an excess of ugly sometimes: not all animals are "beautiful," on a purely aesthetic level. Marabou storks? nach; naked mole rats? okay, maybe; orms? ye gawd! That said, it is a subjective consideration. I have deliberately drawn some of my animals to be ... well ... not aesthetic in order to derive some sense of "reality" from them.

I mean ugly as in the greyhound lizard monsters with feather crests called "Velociraptor."

Really ugly indeed. Also, I see feathers as an element of good looks in coelurosaurs. A coelurosaur with feathers is way more awesome than one without.

Great ink work, and an excellent non-stereotypical ( in other words.. not a cassowary ripoff.) interpretation of Oviraptor.

How true. I never liked those abominations. I think there is more behind a creative reconstruction than just ripping off an modern animal.

Featherless Oviraptor was always an ugly dinosaur, but feathered Oviraptor is quite handsome.

Indeed it was, and an silly and clumsy egg-thief.
Oviraptors need much more love.

Also, coelurosaurs in general just look plain stupid without feathers. I much prefer them to have feathers and look good than be bald and look terrible.
