So nice! Your placement of the butterfly to form the smile (that the girl otherwise doesn't have?) is perfect. Love the Hawthorne quote below it, too. I work with graphite and charcoal and am starting to experiment with colored pencil now. Do you mind be asking which paper you're using to mix the media onto?

You've done a wonderful job in drawing this. The detail on the butterflies is excellent, as is the detail of their nest in the girl's hair. The face itself is exquisitely done, and the black and white coloring almost gives her the appearance of a porcelain doll. The fact that only her eyes and the butterflies are colored is very telling - as though "life" has been stripped from her by the frantic search for happiness, and only starts to come back into her when she realizes she needs to simple allow it to come to her.
There is, however, one thing I notice - she doesn't look happy. I realize she's young, and she wouldn't have laugh lines around her eyes, but the look in them isn't one of joy. While it's a truly beautiful work, that's the one flaw that I noticed in it.
I do thank you for sharing it, though. You have superb technique.
