This is really cool, but the arrow is sorta on the wrong side of the string - he's going to slice his hand with the bowstring if he lets it fly like that.

Mm, no it's not. I've been doing archery for about 9 years now and I always knock my arrow on that side of the bow and I've never been hurt by it. Perhaps you're thinking of Japanese archery? The way the Japanese and the Europeans do archery is quite different.
