Last week I managed to find a lost gaming relic: Hoofs 64 and took my time to rip the eponymous banana-footed horse.

For those not familiar with this game, Hoofs 64 was an early Nintendo 64 homebrew centering on the wacky adventures of Hoofs, a weird yet whimsical horse. The game was blasted here and there upon release and as the developer disappeared due to the backlash they received, there were almost no places to get the game until recently. Knowledge about the game was the privilege of the video game community of 3San, an anonymous message board. Sometime ago however, the developer resurfaced on an indie gaming forum and announced a reboot that will be released on Steam. The trolls at 3San took advantage of this news and created a single-serving shock site under the aegis of Hoofs. Users would propagate the upcoming game with the express intention to lure unsuspecting people into the trap. The spread of the bait-and-switch attacks accelerated in March, reaching DeviantArt less than a week ago. As the contents of said shock site are NSFL, many web services are restricting Hoofs content to protect their userbase, with Instagram dishing out permabans to anyone mentioning "Hoofs".

Not everyone agreed to these radical measures, though. Twitter and Tumblr clarified that there will be no blanket ban on Hoofs in a statement and FurAffinity invited honest Hoofs fans to share their passion there.
