"No there won't."
"What will people think when they hear that the other BTA's haven't gotten back to us for months?"
"They won't think of it because they won't hear of it."
"We're going to tell them, right?"
"Of course not."

"Because they don't need to know."
"They deserve to know the truth. They deserve to know that we might be the last ones-"
"No they don't! No one deserves anything. It's what they need, not what they deserve."
"So if we're not going to tell them the truth, what are we going to do?"
"What do people tend to do when they're not telling the truth?"

"Exactly."
"What will we say."
"Tell them what they want to hear. We got contact from another BTA. They said that everyone was fine and that they were glad we checked in. Then, right after we left, the place blew off over a cliff. We barely held on with the strength of our fingers."

"They don't know that. If it's a 'common occurrence' no one will question it."
"What will keep them from sending us out again?"
"Nothing, hopefully. It'll be nice to have a break from our normal lives."
"What if they want to send someone else out?"
"Already thought about that. We'll make sure they only send us out."
"How? Since we've already thrown out the rule-book, I'd assume that murder's on the table, but killing people seems to ruin the subtly of lying, doesn't it?"
"No, we'll tell someone on the inside what's going on and they'll help us out."
"Who are we supposed to trust? How do we know that we won't be arrested- You already have someone chosen, don't you?"
"I was thinking the elder Josh."
"Oh! I see how it is. We don't become murders. We just work with them."
"Josh is a good man. Besides, none of those accusations were ever proven true."
"Yeah, because all of the accusers suspiciously committed suicide."
"They were killed by in the genocide of- Why are we even on about this? He was a scientist. He's been around for a very long time. He'll understand the idea of keeping secrets."
"A scientist who brutally stabbed his co-workers to death with his sharpened pinkie-finger-bone."
"Really? I heard that he just shot them. I also heard that it was an accident. That's not the problem. He'll keep us safe."
"Great. Two bumbling scouts will be protected by a one hundred year old murderer."

"He's 212. It's a miracle that he lived this long."

This reminds me of my favorite Science Fiction artist of the 1960's-1990's, John Conrad Berkey. You have quite the Vision of other worlds that he does. See you on some distant planets in our Galaxy in the future!
