Description
This is a sketchy character design I did a while ago for another story of mine: Curse of the Winged Koi (that I'll be working on after I finish Knite and WE)Iwazaru is the name of one of the 3 wise monkeys; it literally translates to "don't speak".
And yes, those are hands tattooed around the mouth
Drawn in Paint tool SAI, colors added in Photoshop. Font is hand written.

At first glance I found this to be straight forward, a pretty drawing. But taking another look I noticed the hands around the mouth. Very interesting. I love that^^

I understand the concept on why the hands are there, and I think it is a great idea, but I find it distracting.... maybe if you darkened his clothes more so the hands don't stand out as much? But maybe that was the point, so I don't know

I love the water colors and the facial tattoo around the mouth. To me it looks like one of those oriental art pieces you would see hanging in a museum. Its beautiful.

A better translation of "iwa-zaru" would be:
The "Iwa..." part is "don't speak", as in "Iwanaide".
The "[zaru" part is from the word "saru", which means "monkey".
Put it all together, and you have "non-talking monkey"/
