Description This map is a side map related to myΒ fav.me/d8ii42f Botswana map!

Β In 1989 The Union of South Africa went into civil war, Transvaal which later renamed itself to the South African Republic initiated an 8 year long war which resulted in much territorial loss within the Union. Originally during the Civil War both the Oranje Free State and Transvaal acted together as a pro-Boer nation demanding both nations to be independent; but after much territorial and army losses a compromise was made to grant independence to Transvaal and create an Autonomous Region within the Union of South Africa. Two major regions (Utrecht & Oranjeland) are still being illegally occupied by the S.A.R. which goes against the Treaty of Fort Victoria (held in neighbouring Rhodesia); the treaty stated that the S.A.R. will gain complete independence and relinquish all holdings in both Swaziland and Oranje (renamed to Oranjeland by S.A.R.). The Republic gained a coast line in order to gain complete control of the vital oil pipeline that runs from it's rich neighbour Botswana. During the civil war Botswana was responsible for arming and financing the S.A.R. and in return obtained the region of Vryburg, just west of Mahikeng. Some view Transvaal as a puppet state of Botswana, others as a liberation front for Boers.

"Give me 20 divisions American soldiers and I will breach Europe. Give me 15 consisting of Englishmen, and I will advance to the borders of Berlin. Give me two divisions of those marvellous fighting Boers (Meaning Farmer, originating from the Boer War) and I will remove Germany from the face of the earth."
Field Marshal Bernard L. Montgomery, Commander of the Allied forces during WWII.

"The Americans fight for a free world, the English mostly for honour and glory and medals, the French and Canadians decide too late that they have to participate. The Italians are too scared to fight; the Russians have no choice. The Germans for the Fatherland. The Boers? Those sons of bitches fight for the hell of it."
American General, George "Guts and Glory" Patton

"Take a community of Dutchmen of the type of those who defended themselves for fifty years against all the power of Spain at a time when Spain was the greatest power in the world. Intermix with them a strain of those inflexible French Huguenots, who gave up their name and left their country forever at the time of the revocation of the Edict of Nantes. The product must obviously be one of the most rugged, virile, unconquerable races ever seen upon the face of the earth. Take these formidable people and train them for seven generations in constant warfare against savage men and ferocious beasts, in circumstances in which no weakling could survive; place them so that they acquire skill with weapons and in horsemanship, give them a country which is eminently suited to the tactics of the huntsman, the marksman and the rider. Then, finally, put a fine temper upon their military qualities by a dour fatalistic Old Testament religion and an ardent and consuming patriotism. Combine all these qualities and all these impulses in one individual and you have the modern Boer."
Sir Arthur Conan Doyl

So glad to see it. Β My curiosity was piqued when I saw Rhodesia was still around, and the. I noticed the South African civil war. Β I wonder if Namibia got its independence and grabbed Walvis Bay during all this.

And it looks like this new Boer Republic (at least based on the city names) got access to the ocean.

Indeed! Ocean access = monetary advantage with the pipeline from Botswana; if you're interested about Rhodesia take a look atΒ fav.me/d82mo6k Β my Rhodesia is an homage to this masterpiece! Take a look at my Botswana map as well, Caprivi strip was taken by Botswana from Namibia

Already had that one faved. Β So many different ways that part of Africa could go, but so few alternate history scenarios showing them.

I REALLY wish that I had the time to make maps still Β

On the bright side, I'll be getting a new computer and starting my path to getting a degree in Geography and Geographic Information Science and Technology, which includes Cartography and Geology. I will also be taking instructional classes on Adobe Illustrator and I'm looking to minor in History (probably US or Latin American specifically). For next 4 to 6 years, and probably for the rest of my life, I'll be making LOADS of maps, for actual grades, projects, and hopefully as a profession.Β

can't wait to see them! I took a few history courses at my Uni but to be honest I feel like I know more than some professors... is that sad? I think it's because people like us, cartographers & history nerds, just love to do our own independent research.
