Description (this is going to be one hell of a long description, sorry )

this is going to sound a bit strange, since it's been months, but this is a birthday present for ~SpiralSea17 (Teehee, I'm slightly late with this one )
Happy belated birthday Spiral, though I already gave you this at y! a little earlier ^^

I started drawing this before the birthday and thought I would make it in time, but the job turned out to be a lot bigger than I expected (the background, woohaa). So, after working on this for months, it's finally done. (I think).

I sort of lost my hope with this at one time and stopped painting it. Then I decided to get it done since it was half done already. And then I stopped again, thinking that gah, it doesn't look at all the way I wanted it to look
And now, I finally decided that I should show it or I never would. I don't think I will ever get it more ready than this.
This process explains why the image looks like it's built from two separate ones (the water and all else, it was a lot more painterly in the beginning)

So, then finally to the pic itself
The painting was referenced from several photos that I borrowed from my mom. The view is from Venice (Venezia) and the characters are from the book Cry To Heaven, which is still my all time favorite book from Anne Rice (as much as I love the vampire chronicles, Cry to heaven is incredible!).
I don't know if they (left one is Guido, the right one Tonio) look at all like themselves, I painted them the way I saw them, not exactly the way they were described ^^
If you haven't read the book, I recommend it!

Since this painting is HUGE, you can't see any of the details in this -_-, I made a page to show the details better: [link]

ffff I just finished it! And man the ending, I was so glad it ended like this ;_; for more than half of the book I dreaded the ending as some terrible tragedy was for sure going to happen, and i was sure i won't recover... but I'm so glad it ended like this. intense, tragically but with hopeful note. so beautiful alskjdlakda

You're welcome, and i hope you will see Venice soon ^^
It is a beautifull city, has his own special kind of romantic atmosphere but as for me... i'd rather like to see forests, and mountains... i know it sounds a little weird.

I made the water with a brush that I created for the painting, it's now my favourite brush to use

You have really done a great work here. It looks even better with the "two parts" impression. Oddly enough I like it better even without the two main personnae over the bridge - those under the bridge are far more interesting to me ...

Yeah, it might look better without the characters on the bridge, that's true, they don't somehow fit
