Description The National Book Festival was last weekend in Washington D.C.! I was thrilled to discover that Kate Beaton, the author of Hark a Vagrant and many other wonderful books, was going to attend. I decided to whip up a little Napoleon for her to sign based on her art style, his face comes from the disgruntled Napoleon illustration on the first page. It was so amazing to meet an artist that I admire so much, whose comics have always been a source of joy. I got my book and Napoleon signed (in the place of honor, the little medallion on his hat) and got to briefly chat with Kate. We took this picture together, which was so amazing (I don't normally post pictures of myself but this one was too good, I'm the one with the book and she is holding my plushie! AH! SO COOLl!). If you aren't familiar with her comics or books, you should definitely check it out on her website, especially if you like history and literature.

Napoleon stands about 13 inches tall without his hat. He is made with deer suede, minky, cotton, and knits and had machine embroidered eyes. I whipped this fella up between commissions, but it was one of the most pressing deadlines I've ever had. I think he came out adorable, especially after I blushed his cheeks. He has found his permanent place next to my risk, copy of Hark a Vagrant, and under some French war medals. It seems appropriate.

Update: Kate Beaton tweeted this post! twitter.com/beatonna/status/78… This is just the icing on the cake that was having the opportunity to meet her in person, I'm so glad she likes my work! <3

Finally!!!!!! I wish of mine came true of someone making a plushie of Kate Beaton's unofficial mascot!!!       I want one so badly, too bad I don't have any more for it  .

Thanks! I just love the way she draws him, he is so round. It was so cool, I was really star struck and she was super nice too! She said it was an honor that I made a plush of him. Life made.
