So much it is in Lost soul mode. That brings me to question... If his soul is lost, did he sell it to somebody? I mean, his quest for knowleddge is very Faustian. Gods, metaphorically it is exactly that, zarla, you genius!

I did, that is why I can compare it to the story of Faust - smart unhappy man makes a deal with devil and loses his soul to him for knowledge and later regrets it, innocent beloved person tries to save him in spite of being victimized by him. Gaster compromises his health, relationships and conscience and looses ability to heal for the sake of learning a lot by torturing kids, one of which pleads with him to become better. And these actions lead to him falling to Core and being tormented by demonic Goop creature, which's the reason, why we see him with Lost soul head. Sounds awfully similar to me and that lost soul is like accidental/intentional symbolism. I merely wanted to say, that lines can be incredibly well drawn between the two. It is the same archetype, so I called it methaphorically same.
