A lot of you guys noticed them not using forks in the last one and wondered about why.Β It's nothing sinister or anything! Gaster just never taught them how to use forks, since he always gave them food in their cell they could eat with their hands . So he just didn't give them any because they wouldn't know how to use them.Eating with your hands does have its downsides, though.
A lot of you guys assumed it was sauceless pasta but I was picturing a buttery clear sauce like with that garlic and olive oil vermicelli pastaroni, haha.

Even if you don't add sauce to pasta, when it's cooked, the spaghetti itself does make its own "sauce" of "saucts" (as in sorts, wink wink), which leave a buttery taste on your fingers if you touch them with your hands.

Like. Are you tryna understand Sans, like trying to understand his confusion?
If not, and you're genuinely confused as to what's happening, here's what I
think is happening;
Gaster usually gives them things like hotdogs or chocolates to feed them.
Stuff you don't need forks for or spoons. But the pasta he gave them had
a type of seasoning on it that was somewhat hard to see to us (the color)
and he didn't give them a fork or a spoon.
So when they were finished eating, they were covered in sauce.
Then when he tried to clean them up with a rag, they got confused
because he wasn't aware he was holding and touching them to get
them to stand still. He usually just throws a towel at them, or dumps
them in a tub and they need to figure it out themself. Or he uses his
magic hands, instead of his real ones.

Sans is confused because it's a fatherly, almost caring act to wipe their faces and hands and care about their cleanliness, and he had done it once when they were younger, back when he 'actually cared' about them.
Gaster told them to stop talking before they started because he didn't want them asking any questions or telling him "thanks" or whatever, because he hates how nice they are to him. He hadn't realized he had managed to fall into that dad-hole and he just kind of ignored it, told them to stop talking because he was distracted with his own thoughts.
Gaster paused because he hadn't realized he'd been doing such a fatherly action, one which he vowed not to do anymore, and both his sons looked confused as all hell, which was understandable.Β
