I once saw footage of this happening. It was part of a BBC/National Geographic documentary (Narrated in the American version by F. Murray Abraham and Sir David Attenburrough in the BBC version), and a pack of twenty fur seals on Dire Island were teasing this shark until it saw the advantage and managed to kill one of the seals. The score music they made for the film added to the tensity of the scene.Β

I wish I could. BBC removed it from Youtube, and I lost the original copy I had on VHS when Nat Geo specials still aired on TBS. This is the only clip of it I was able to find.Β

The documentary was called Great White Shark: The True Story of Jaws. It was part of the BBC Wildlife Specials and was in fact the first episode of that series to air.

Well great whites may not be the most flexible of sharks but I sincerely doubt goading someone a few hundred times your size is a wise idea.

While this is a thing that does happen, itβs actually not correct that the shark cannot catch a sea lions or fur seal in a flat-out chase.

Because great whites can't chase a sea lion since it can make sharp turns every second. That's why these sharks ambush sea lions.

Great white sharks actually can and do chase sea lions if the initial ambush misses. The seal is more agile but the shark is faster and can outlast its prey.
