I never put much thought into the "clown thing" but now that I see it for what it is, with their inexplicible makeup and bizarre clothing, I don't get their appeal. I can see why so many people have "clown-a-phobia" and have night mayors (sp) about them. If the explanation is we find them funny because they are grotesque and appear so "different" from us, then it follows that we are uncomfortable with people who are disfugured or "handicapped," enough so to laugh and ridicule THEM. So clowns make it OKAY to make fun of those who are not like us normal people. Like a relief valve so we don't have to deal with our discomfort when facing a real person who is sadly different.

I used to love clowns then one day my opinion just completely flipped. I got freaked out by a creepy guy in a clown outfit and it made me realize how disturbing the whole thing is. I don't even think its that they look different or funny, it's more about the fact that these people have at some point decided that they don't relate to themselves or the people around them so they put on an outlandish bizarre and flamboyant costume, accent and attitude and become a new entity. The idea of needing to change yourself so you don't remotely resemble what you really are is a farce. They are not human...

Agrees but why do so many people think they're cool and take their kids to be "entertained" (terrorized) by them? Because so many of us are sadistic and torment us with these characters, going, "Why are you so afraid? (heh heh) Clowns are FUNNNN!" And your creepy guy in a clown outfit... right. TOO many pervs hide right there to molest children! They don't just hide because of insecurity, they hide to avoid scrutiny and prosecution.
Ya Bastids ya!
