The Nordic 5 are actually Scandinavian countries, but it is possible for them to be distant cousins, or half-siblings though I doubt it, of the rest of the Germanic countries seeing as they look alike and have influenced each other in some way, shape and form at some point in history. Just wanted to point that out too. As for Estonia and Latvia, both of them are Slavic countries that, again, have been influenced by the Germanic family. Aestii and possibly Kievan Rus are the Baltics, Ukraine, Belarus, and Russia's parents.Β
While I could be wrong with the Baltics, I know for a fact that I'm right on the Nordic 5 countries.Β

Well, it's mostlyΒ correct, but actually, Latvia and Lithuania are Baltcis and Estonia is Finno-Urgic like Hungary and Finland. Also, you forgot to add Luxembourg.

I am not sure about Latvia or Estonia as Latvia is Baltic and Estonia is Uralic like Hungary and Finland (though am not too sure about their history and background as I never really studied those countries very much though).
But technically yes, Germanic tribes were everywhere (including the Visigoths and Vandals in Spain. Won't get too much into history with Spain as it is irrelevant; but he would be mixed as he would have some Germanic blood as well and quite possibly be related to England/U.K. and Ireland distantly through the Basque and Northern Spaniards), Lombard in Norther Italy which was a tribe that came from Sweden), etc...France also can be seen as part Germanic due to the Franks and even Normandy (which comes from Norman which means North men). Also Luxembourg, etc...Though it isn't uncommon for them to have light brown hair or eyes now either due to different mixing from others throughout history or even red hair on occasions though that is more rare in general. Blue I guess blond hair and blue is more recognizable due to the stereotypes, so I am guessing that is why Himaruya went with that most of the time.Β
America would be mixed and be part Germanic as we aren't really a homogeneous country (even Native Americans/Indigenous people are not. I won't get too much of that either though as that also is off topic); but besides being colonized by some Germanic countries (or countries with some Germanic traits I guess you can say in England and Frances case), many Germans, Scandinavians, and Dutch moved to the Midwest and are some of the biggest ethnic groups/populations in parts of the Midwest.
Β I do agree that England is sort of a mix as well (Danes and Norwegian Vikings, Normans, Germany etc...though the Romans also ended up in England at one point so British DNA varies a bit and why sometimes depends on where you live; Europe West, Italy/Greece, Iberian and Scandinavian will show up. I am going by AncestryDNA model but other DNA companies are pretty close to each other so not much of a difference).
Also Holy Roman Empire was Multi-Ethnic which wasn't uncommon among rulers, royalty, etc...that was how they gained control of other lands/territories long ago.Β
Β Β
Long story short, history is complicated and people traveled a lot.Β

Actually England is a Celtic nation along with France, Denmark, Sweden, and Norway are part of the North-Germanic Family. Belgium, The Netherlands, and Luxembourg are a part of the Lowlands, Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Austria are Alphine. Also Prussia though being Germany's older brother does not make the oldest member of the Germanic family, here what I mean
Austria- 976
Prussia-1525
Germany- 1871
Liechtenstein- 1806
Switzerland- 1291
Belgium-1830
The Netherlands- 1581
Luxembourg- 1815
Plus, Latvia is of the Baltic family and Estonia is Ulric like Finland and Hungary.

I hate to point it out, but Latvia and Estonia are not Germanic nations.
Latvia and Lithuania are descendants of ancient Baltic tribes, or simply known as the Balts- many of them died out however because of the waves of invasions from the Teutonic Knights during the Holy Crusades. However, they still keep their Baltic roots, heritage, language and customs.
As for Estonians, they hail from Finnic or Finno-Urgic tribes, so they would be more closely related to Finland or Hungary. Also part of why Estonia and Finland get along well.

((Shouldn't America (Markland) and Canada (Vinland) be included, since even if they are England's kids and not any of the Nordics', they'd still be at least half-Germanic? In addition, the Franks were Germanic, meaning France is sort of an adopted member (well, OK, that's my headcanon, anyway), right? ))

I was actually thinking about that the other day... I realised when you add everyone up, it's basically anyone blonde on the show is Germanic (I used a 'Germanic Nations' list someone else put together for this as well as my own research and America, France and Canada don't feature. I was considering writing a fic about America receiving a Teutonic Iron Cross - my own headcanon states that all the Germanics have one) You raise a good point, one that only increases the size of the Germanic family! XD

Germania, England, Belgium, Germany, Iceland, and Switzerland are gasping at something Denmark did.
Prussia is like, "KESESESESESESE... Wait what's going on? Kesesese...."
Austria and Netherlands have no clue what's going on.
Liechtenstein is like, 'Wha?'
Norway is like, "What did he do this time? ._."
Sweden is like, "You should know."
Oh, and HRE wants a hug from Germania. He feels neglected.

Some have blonde hair.
Some have gray(silver?) hair.
Some have green eyes.
Some have blue eyes(also includes purple).
I can totally see all of them being related.
I wonder how Himaruya will portray the Germanic nations' history.
He did mention The Germanic people treasure their families.

Their faces all seem to have the same base don't they? Blonde hair, green or blue eyes seem to be the key family trait for the Germanics.
Austria is quite a random change in trend, with his brown hair and eyes. I think perhaps he is Rome's kid or something adopted in and Prussia is albino but his face still fits the trend these guys have.
I wonder if Himaruya planned all these similarities and he has something planned? I'm glad you agree with their family resemblence! x
