On one layer, I just used the 'airbrush pen opacity flow' brush at like 50% flow with red. orange, yellow and white. Then on a layer above that, I set the layer to screen and got the preset 'airbrush soft round 50%' brush and brushed it on top in a lava orange/red color. Then on top of that, I used a custom brush I made for stars to make the white flecks from the fire.
