A few years ago I wondered what my patronus would be. I always loved the idea of a cat; a snow leopard or an ocelot to be specific. I thought about this, and as much as I would absolutely love that idea I knew that there were way too many people with those similar ideas.
A patronus is supposed to be personal, a part of you.

I came across the idea for the bat in a patronus quiz. One of those "Which is your Patronus?" kind of thing. My answer was the bat. And I sat there and thought about it, and I absolutely fell in love with the idea. I didn't make it a specific kind of bat, although I think I may eventually.

Also, there are a few other reasons I decided to go with that bat, and that's it's connection to magic, history and mythology:
Medieval alchemists believed bat was similar to the dragon.
Scottish people believed that when a flying bat rises and descends, it does so by a witch’s house.
Bats flying near people mean someone is trying to bewitch them
An Australian tribe believes that killing bats shortens life.
