The ninenteen windmills of Kinderdijk.

This place owns something magical, I swear. I detached from our group with my girlfriend to take a short look at this place, and I must say I'm really happy Michela supported me in this little adventure. I can't find words to describe it, I was totally overwhelmed by its calm, its silence. When we arrived, we were at about 1 hour from sunset. We didn't have much time, because the bus was returning in an hour or so. We missed it, so we had to wait another hour. I wasn't totally unhappy since I had the chance to take more photos, but my girlfriend was very sad about this: can't say she was wrong, we had to return to our hotel by taxy once we got to Amsterdam Central Station, since midnight was long passed.

Maybe it's just me, and the fact that we don't have many windmills in our country, but I liked this place a lot! I plan on returning, to get some shots of the place at sunrise! I bet it's spectacular!

Just like with Dreams of placid essence , the violet look of the sky is an outcome of the sunset filter used here, while the deep blue of the water is achieved with the blue GND4 filter (see below my doubts about filters used). A modest contrast boost in post processing was applied.
The main difference between this photo and the previous one (apart the obvious different choices of composition) is that I used a very closed aperture to get slower shutter speeds and thus eliminating waves on the surface of the water. After thinking about these shots a little, I realized I can't really state for sure what filters I've used apart from the sunset one! I think I forgot... as a matter of fact, I must have used the whole holder slots (3) since I had to lower the aperture instead of using the ND8 filter. The blue from the bottom lets me think I've also used the GND4 blue filter reversed, and so the last filter is probably the polarizer (the sky looks brighter than the water).

Here the composition with the isolated windmill completely reflected in the water tries to give both peace and rise doubts in the observer. The illusion of the mirror coupled with the deep blue tones of the bottom reflex should give the impression the photo got filpped (worked for my mother at least! ).

To me this piece says: a "vision" and an "idea" are two different perceptions of reality, not necessarily correlated and eventually not conforming to one "truth".
