Ayule's life has been filled with moments of intense emotion, but this was one of the most significant: burning the quarry/concentration camp he spent most of his young life at.

His family had been part of the group of rebel vortians who fought back against the Irken Empire's all-controlling grasp. When he was a year old, his family was captured and imprisoned in a concentration camp. His dad died during the initial conflict, leaving Ayule with only his rebel face tattoos, his mother, older brother, and a tattered green scarf. Until he was about 15, Ayule worked in the concentration camp, doing menial labor in mines and quarries that easily could have been done by machines, but the Irken Empire wanted the prisoners to struggle with redundant tasks as punishment for rebelling.

When Ayule was 14, his mother was having serious health conditions and was unable to keep up with most of her labor tasks. Ayule tried to pitch in and help her with them, to avoid the savagely critical eye of the prison guards, but eventually it wasn't enough--returning home from a day of work, he learned his mother had been seen as unfit to keep, and she was taken where all sick, injured, or elderly prisoners were taken: the furnace.

Grief made the anger in him, that had been smoldering all his life at his situation, finally spill over. He got more violent and angry at everything. When he learned his fellow prisoners were planning an escape, he was in on it without hesitation, ignoring the fearful, cautionary advice of his brother, who refused to attempt to escape, seeing it as an instant death warrant. At age 15, Ayule participated in a revolt and escaped from the camp with a group of other prisoners, out into the surrounding forest...in itself a prison, as it was massive, cold, and unforgiving. But the escape leader had contacts on the outside--A path to follow for safety. The escape through the forest was hellacious; the irken guards didn't hesitate to launch heavy fire into the trees after the fleeing prisoners, and the majority of those escaping did not make it--and there was plenty of skeletal evidence still laying, half-buried, in the surrounding forest to show that previous escapes had not worked, either.

By a stroke of luck, Ayule made it out of the woods with a few other prisoners and the revolt leader, a couple of days later. A boat was waiting at the edge of a massive ocean: Ayule thought he was now going to be free, start a new life...but freedom came with a price. The boat captain and crew informed him that he and his other prisoner escapees would have to work as indentured servants for a while, as payment for their freedom. Ayule was furious that the revolt leader had not informed him or the others about this cost, but he was stuck with the choice.

Ayule ended up stuck under the thumb of multiple employers for the next couple of years, doing whatever he was told, transported to different places, with himself and others around him struggling with the vicious temper he had that never died down, no matter how often it was punished. Eventually though, his freedom was won; meaning, he finally lost his temper and killed a ruthless employer, stealing a ship and flying off to a lawless planet to lay low for a while, quite done with being a slave to anyone.

During his stay on a lawless planet (Think Tortuga, from Pirates of the Caribbean), he quickly learned the art of theft and skulduggery, and got very good at it. Networking, bribes, and threats ended up landing him a reputation on the streets; then, gradually, partnerships...then a couple of employees. Then his own ship, then a crew, and things grew from there.

At age 25, he had grown himself a pretty successful, if dark, lifestyle. And he still had something left to do.

One day, once he was very well-prepared and had enough manpower, he headed back to the concentration camp that he'd spent most of his life in...murdering as many prison guards as he could, releasing as many vortian prisoners as he could (Which wasn't very many, since their general population had dramatically decreased over the last decade) then setting the whole place on fire, with as many irkens as possible still left in it.

And there he left it, burning and smoldering, finally vindicated.
