Excellent, powerful composition - and slightly disturbing.
The significance of captions is something I often discuss with my photography students, and this is a classic example. Looking at this image of what at first appears to be a straightforward, delightful portrait, the viewer is then confronted with this alarming and deeply distressing caption; it is difficult to reconcile the innocence of these faces with the unimaginable horror and degradation of the pitiful existence of the heroin addict.
This photograph has particular personal significance; one of my ex-students IS a heroin addict, yet I can still remember her like this, as a happy, care-free young person, with a burning ambition to become a Paramedic. I occasionally see her, living on the streets in a North Devon town, her once pretty face having become the hollow, empty mask of a victim of drug-dependancy.

its sad i see the same faces in a lot of people. twelve? that sucks... whats fucked up is im sure he wasn't advertised drugs like most junkies. sometimes little hope is all it takes

This shot s very 'deep'.
It's really good and high quality but i'm more interested in the kids.I'm really sad because of the child's drug addict but when i see him i don't see that i see 'that look' now i understand that name because it's undescribable..
