Description A full coloured and textured version of a superb sketch by the very talented ~ genesis

When I first saw this sketch I fell in love with it and the concept behind it. I knew I wanted to work on this image straight away. I have never done work like this before - ie working from someone elses sketch so this was quite a refreshing process. I will be posting a walkthrough of the process some time soon in my website.

The original premise behind the image, written by Genesis is:

"The robot Rustbucket stands in its swampy home, not moving waiting to catch a ray of light where it will be used as energy. Rustbuckets 'family' sits patiently waiting for him to catch some energy for everyone to take home. Although to them this may seem like a few minutes to us it is years.

When this is done imagine earthy kind of colours with a cold mist engulfing the environment. Should be quite an atmospheric piece as the only thing that looks alive is the kingfisher that sits ontop Rustbuckets staff."

I hope I have done this justice with my on style.

please take the time to say hi to ~ genesis and check out his cool gallery

This is realy lovely. Normally I don't like paintings when they have just a tiny amount of blur in it, but in this one, it looks awesome. It gives a good focal point around the robots. And the robots look damn good. Original concept, good worked out. My fav.

I have looked at this piece for over a month. The poem that came to me did not seem to do it the honors I felt it deserver. I tossed it in the trash, then my ex-girl pulled it out thinking it was a love letter to some unknown other woman, NOT GUILTY.

Well I had to post it because it was resurrected, I hope you like the poem, and it still does not touch the perfection I see in the colors of your work. EXCELLENT!!!!!

wow. this's neat. a little creepy, but neat. it reminds me a LOT of the robots of Laputa from Hayao Miyazaki's film Laputa: Castle in the sky. if you're curious, head over to [link] for more details about it.

It's taken me ages to comment on this, and for that I am sorry... It's quite emotional, and for that reason I have a hard time saying what I see

If you could ever feel sorry for robots, or machines in general, this would be the time... So much sorrow and depression... the way that not only the robots, but the whole scene seems to be rusting with them in the gloom of the overgrown swamp... the dim, pale lights in their eyes, with darker rust around the edges - tears of oil.

This picture is genius, both of you have produced something special here... now excuse me, I have to go cry

This is one amazing piece of work.

The cool colors and and the mist makes me feel that i am in a swamp. It also gives the robots emotion... sadness. Sad that their shinny metalic skin is ruined from the swamp. The vegetation growth on them makes it seem like have been there for ages, maybe even seized up and stuck wordering if they will ever move agian. The bird perched up on the walking stick seems to be calm and uncaring of these metalic persons. Uncaring in a way that they are outcasts and unwanted. But the ray of light breaking through the trees makes it seems that there is hope for them. A hope that they long for. Freedom.

There is some amazing detail in the trees, robots and the water. All the colors flow nicely and the composition is amazing. Keep up the great work.

I just typed out a whole huge caption and it did not save so i am a little annoyed but no matter its such a great colouring job you have done i will write it all again. I didnt think it was possible to make such a atmospheric image from the rough sketch i made, it wasnt even completed. The only critic i have to say is the bird on the staff, it looks a little strange but thats no fault on your half its mine. I would have liked to have finished this piece but as it was just a sketch i guess you got more freedom to do what you like with the colouring. And you did a remarkable job.

FEEL FREE TO COLOUR MY WORK ANYTIME MATEY.

The moss is what i love the most, its just how i pictured it on my little robots and the rusty textures on the robots themselves was just how i wanted it. I absolutely adore your colouring skills as you created such a great image from an incomplete sketch. Once again you get my vote as i am FAVing this, i just hope when people goto the rough sketch you linked they know its not my best work. But anyway, if you have any ideas you would like to share with me and ask me to sketch for you i could but im sure you would like to try as much possible with your talent.

I'm glad u like it

u did the hard work really, creating such a cool concept that really inspired me a touched me at the same time.

Although it was unfinished (the sketch) I had such an instant vision of how it would look in my imagination that for me it really was finished already. The rawness of the image and the superb description should have made it DTF all on its own. All I did was fill in a few gaps here and there.

I kinda like the bird. its different enough to stand out. A lot of people have commented and said they didnt think the piece needed it, but I think its what adds the cherry on the icecream. I'm not great at birds, but I figured I'd done enough to it when my Girlfriend said, 'oh I like the Kingfisher'

Once again, thank you for producing such an inspirin piece of work. I would love to work with u again on something... just do what ya do man, I'll be watching

Z.

As i mentioned earlier you have done a great job on my sketch, i didnt know how it was going to turn out as it wasnt even complete or even my best work but you have done great work on it. Feel free to colour any of my sketches anytime if you keep up the great colouring, you really gave it a nice atmosphere and yes it does look swampy.

Love the way you gave my robots moss like i was hoping you would. And the textures of them turned out fabulous.

If i had to criticise anything its the bird i drew it was not complete and does look a bit odd in this image but overall it doesnt even bother me whatsoever and i am going to favourite this.

Man, it's about time some of Gen's work got featured on DD, even if it's redux. And good lord, this is hardly a " reduction" of anything--I had always said that I never thought coloration could top or even match the inhumanly outstanding quality of his pencilwork, but I believe this may just prove me wrong. Respect, man, respect!

You have most definately done it justice, so don't worry about that. The atmosphere, which is obviously the intended emphasis of the piece, is outstanding--such environmental effects and cool mood lighting are unbelievably fitting, and nearly photorealistic--while still reataining that wonderfully painted, fantasy, surreal look. I mean, seriously--I don't think I've seen such an outstanding collaboration of talents in a long, long time. You have my greatest admiration, man, both for such a fantastic piece of work, and for bringing much-deserved attention to one of the greatest penciler on DA. You've also got my . May it join many, many others
