What doesn't make it Grimdark?

Well, the term "grimdark" is in reference to a quote from the tabletop game Warhammer 40,000 and its lore. "In the grim darkness, of the far future, there is only war."
When the hussmeister refers to Rose and her "grimdark" obsessions, he is of course referring to the Lovecraftian based creatures of the dark that he's conceived for the sake of the story. That being said, just because something is coated with a dark overlay and surrounded by darkness, it doesn't necessarily make it "Grimdark." Here's some good examples of grimdark art:

No it's not what it's based off of, it's that rose isn't grimdark. She's posessed by grimdark lovecraftian creatures, and even in that state she isn't grimdark (regardless of what cannon says).

Uh. I'm talking about what Homestuck labels as grimdark. I realize there is something it's based off of, but I'm talking about the definition in that particular series. I mean, I may be wrong, but I was under the impression that yes, Rose was at the very least undergoing the transformation of becoming grimdark. As in, it was state in canon.
And I honestly don't mean this in a sarcastic way or anything, but the pictures you provided are... well, they're people that are "coated with a dark overlay surrounded by darkness".
I'm really baffled as to what you're trying to say here.

There are plenty of instances where a coined term is altered slightly in the case of original fiction. "Warhammer grimdark" and "Homestuck grimdark" are not the same things, dear.
No need to get all defensive. I'm just saying it like it is, not as an insult to you. You can enjoy all the Warhammer you want, but the truth is, it's irrelevant here.

And it's not how Hussie, nor Warhammer describes it. It's a definition of an artstyle, a genre if you will. All in all it has nothing to do with either of them, and the origin of the word is Warhammer based (though it's typically used to describe objects outside of the Warhammer 40'000 universe).
Honestly, if you can't understand that, like I said there's no helping you. Snide and tongue in cheek comments aside, I originally complimented your work. I said it was all fine and cute. Whereas, it (referring to your cutesy artwork) came around and you asked me to define what doesn't make it "grimdark." Which is all and good, but now, even in the MSPA Wiki pages, it refers to the term "grimdark" in close relation to the eldritch powers along with the powers that they possess.
NOW that being said, coating a character in a dark aura, and placing spindly tentacles around it, does not make a piece of art grimdark. NOW I will also assume, that you've never read any of the works by Lovecraft, nor have you any sort of prior understanding to any such dark powers such as these WHICH WERE IN FACT based off of the ruinous powers of chaos which are ancient concepts of deific beings thought to be of daemonic descent, before your introduction to them in the fiction here so known as Homestuck.
NONE OF WHICH coincides with the points you've provided. Which were, what again? Oh, that's what they said in Homestuck you said? That's not what I thought they were saying in my animu you say? Well, I'm sorry to burst your fan-bubble, but nowhere does it directly define the term "grimdark" in your beloved Homestuck (though it does in fact outside of it).
Aye though, fiction is fiction. But that's not what we're discussing dear, what I've been going on about is that you can't wrap your feeble mind around the fact that, this (your artwork) is not in fact grimdark. Now please, don't flatter yourself to think that my gurgling foodsack would get bent out of shape over some childish, supercilious nonsense. That being pointed out, I personally see no difference between my drawing and the links you provided earlier. They're both dark to me. The "situation" (as you said what defines grimdark) is there - the character has gone grimdark, at leas the "grimdark" defines in Homestuck. Just because my style is different doesn't really give you any ground to say it's not "dark". Just because my character isn't drawn in the particular style you seem to like and find "masculine" and "mature" doesn't mean it cannot express more masculine and mature themes.
I'm actually.... very sad to see someone who cannot "see" art. I mean yes, you see the colors and all, but you cannot see meaning and emotion behind a piece. I can't imagine a life not being able to experience creative freedom. If "dark" to you is nothing but "black", then my pity is immeasurable.
While we're at it, educate yourself, dear . The Homestuck fandom does indeed define the term "grimdark". And while that's a wiki, the definition is also pieced together by quotes in the comic. Therefore, yes, it is defined.
I am well aware of Lovecraft fiction. However, I'm intelligent enough to know the same term can be taken and warped (or even completely redone) in other fiction. I'm sorry you cannot seem to understand this.
