Description Here's a master copy I did in acrylic on a 16 x 20 canvas. I didn't focus on copying each stroke, but more about the look/feel/color interaction/approach of it. I learned a lot about it, and hope to apply this kind of technique to some of my future work. Fechin is hard to figure out - there's not a whole lot on how he painted, and he experimented a good bit on top of that. But it got me over my fear of thick, drybrush painting.

Beautiful! The paint strokes are so wonderful, they're very dry and bold but still the colours are so gentle that they make me think of petals and feathers. In fact, the colour of the purple is the exact colour of the jacaranda flowers outside my aunts house that bloom in the spring! So lovely!

I've never really STUDIED art but I've heard this term before. 'Stroke economy'? I think you must have good stroke economy because it doesn't look like you use a thousand tiny strokes. The strokes are big and wonderful! And they give this painting such a confident and vibrant look!

Really a splendid painting, and an excellent master copy. I wish I could face down a canvas as courageously as yourself, as bravely as this piece, skillfully applying subtle tonal values with a few bold strokes and a simple, but elegent and well thought out palette. When I stand in front of the canvas it is with sheer terror, and I only manage to bludgeon out something passable through the sheer force of my fear. Well maybe that's overexaggerating. But I look up to you, as you are a prime example of what proper classical training can achieve in the pursuit of traditional oil painting... I said oils, haha; I don't recall ever seeing acrylics wielded so well. Well done.

Nice to see some truly painterly work in DeviantArt! Kind of reminds me of John Singer Sargent's work too.
