This is actually based off an actual deer and her fawn that used to frequent my backyard.

She was probably the best mama deer I and my family ever saw. She always had two new babies each spring, and they always survived. My mom and I always noticed she had new scrapes and injuries, such as claw marks on her side, and a blind eye. We started thinking that she always protected her fawns from predators and kept them away from roads at her own risk. She was one tough cookie, and one of her babies took after her. We named her "Pickles".... Well, my brother did. Anyways, Pickles was orphaned about 2 years ago, and adopted another orphaned fawn. She guards her the way her mother did.

Animals are really so amazing.
