Description This is the Celtic cross that is in Edinburgh city centre. I like the style of the Celtic cross and i wouldn't mind getting one tattooed on my back.

The title is to do with the fact that when Christianity came to Scotland it fused with the local legends and beliefs of the Gaelic people hence the Celtic cross.

very nice. I haven't seen this though as someone far more familiar with Glasgow it is hardly surprising. I like how they have done it - the have kept true to the old Pictish traditions (finishing the knotwork properly, sculptured scenes within the body of the cross, etc.) while still keeping a modern feel with the materials used etc. Pretty cool

I like the angle you took the photo from but it would have been nice to get all of the cross. Someone above said about it being under exposed but to me it looks quite cool like that, and increasing the exposure would risk blowing out the sky and giving horrible light bleed to the leaves, so not so sure about that - though perhaps isolating the cross itself and bringing that up a bit might work.

Nice photo.

Thank you very much
Yes something i like about christianity in Scotland was its integration with the local folklore and especially the christian cross. I mean i'm not a christian but it is still a thing of beauty

Yeah... I am not sure "integration" is the right word, but I know what you mean. I think a lot of pagan traditions and folklore survived despite Christianity, and I guess the early church were more accepting of that. Take the Pictish stones for example, which had Christian symbology right there alongside older Pagan symbols. But the Reformation was brutal in Scotland and a lot of art was destroyed by reformist fanatics. Scotland still bears the scars of those times even now...
I am an atheist but I can still appreciate the art that has been done in the name of Christianity.

Aye that is true but in the more northern parts like the western isles they were unaffacted by the reformation.

not true... most of the Western Isles are the Free Church of Scotland, which is a Calvinist church, more "protestant" than the Presbyterian Church of Scotland for example. But yeah, you might be right in the sense that I am not sure how much was destroyed during the reformation on the Western Isles. But hey, let's not talk about religion! lol.

Aye thats true. Hand made can generally be nicer but i'd rather have a laptop made by a mchine rather than by hand

Thats casue we have only a vague understanding of how the stones were transported but we know how they made it by hand and with effort we probably could do it. Sorry i'm an archaeologist so i may waffle about such subjects

The photo could be very nice, but is underexposed. You could correct a bit the values, bringing the cross "up" and rendering it more visible
