Description As I painted this ... I found it more and more having a Mona Lisa look -- just more modern.
That is why I called it this name. I feel she is having the same mysterious look - and is she
now smiling or is she not ... ?

You're most welcome!! For some reason, I am not being notified when you post a deviation. I checked my friends list to be sure your name was ticked so I would get a notification. Another one the the bugs, I guess. If I hadn't been on your page yesterday, I would have never known you had posted anything. I hope you don't think I am rude.

That is really weird ... and that was even before DA implemented its new system?

Have you tried to delete me as a friend ... and then trying to re-add me ?

No .... I have not even thought about it ... so no ... I never thought you were rude !
Now I am just thinking ... if there are others that are not seeing my uploads.
Or if there are some that uploads and I am not seeing their new deviations.

I guess it will take a while before everything settles to normal again.
I was happy to see today .... that the random favorites are working again !!

zoozee In reply to Leanndra51 [2006-08-01 15:40:50 +0000 UTC]

Ok .... the real Mona Lisa .... is not really looking good seen from the standards we
have now a days .. Guess she was beautiful seen with the eyes of the people back
then. At that time they did not use make-up .... and that makes a difference too.

I love making dramatic paintings ... Leonardo was more descreet with the drama
but maybe making a mystery pic without significant drama is more excellent done.
I do not know.

But I can tell you .... I have been in Paris - Louvre ... and seen Mona Lisa ... and
what a BIG HUGE disappointment.
It is so small .... the frame is more significant and huge than the actual painting.

The frame is red velvet and a big shiny gold frame surrounding the velvet.
And there in the middle of all this glory ... sits a tiny MonaLisa - looking all shabby
compared to the pompous frame.

This was years and years ago .... they might have changed it now ... but I have
spoken with several people that have seen it ... and they were all just as
disappointed as me.

However .. a lot of the other art they have there .. was so fantastic and so
wonderful ... that I went around crying ... just seeing such wonderful art.
I was only 16 when I was there .... so not sure if it would have same
impact on me today.

Yes, I can understand that, by our standards she probably seems rather archaic. But to think that everything Leonardo used, all of them, had to be created from scratch, tinkered with, experimented with, doing the trial and error thing, and then that these paintings have lasted centuries, that to me, is the real phenomenon! I think Da Vinci was a genius! He had a wonderfully curious mind and I think he was born in the wrong century! I think he would have fit in well in this day and age! But as a painter I am not impressed with his works.

I actually had the privilege of seeing Rembrandt's "The Descent From the Cross" in 1985. I had gone to the World's Fair in New Orleans and one of the exhibits was from the Vatican. It was profoundly moving! There was such an impact, such a feeling that they could step out of the image! It is one of the highlights of my life! It was very dramatic, and I cried too! I was in my 30s then!

Oh so you are like me .... when seeing something that is so fantastic and so wonderful
you can not help but cry .... that is exactly how I am. It is like seeing a miracle !!

I love Rembrandt as an artist ... he is fantastic !!!

Leanndra51 In reply to zoozee [2006-08-03 15:17:57 +0000 UTC]

Yes, I am a very emotional person, very tenderhearted and passionate about many things. I agree, it is like seeing a miracle! I know when I saw that image, and it was gigantic, larger than life, actually, it seemed that they could step out of the image. It was very profound. The exhibit was amazing, even though I am not Catholic. When you went into the room where the image was, you walked in a long corridor that had a slight angle leading up. Vaulted ceilings, A very large room. At the end on the far wall, was this work of Rembrandts, and it was so powerful, so beautiful, so realistic, it had such a strong and deep impact! I'll never forget it!

I know Lea ...... experiences like that ..... will never go away !

I have had something like that several times ... I have been travelling a lot
in my life ... and seen things in most European countries - that have amazed
me - or given me tears in my eyes because of the greatness. Yes ... those
things stick ... and they always will !

Arent we the lucky ones Lea ..... that we let us impact ... we are open to
what may come - even we must stand in the crowd crying.
I think we are very lucky .... I would not like to be one of the ones
that just look and taking it as if they were on their normal window shopping stroll.

Yes, I know we are the lucky ones! I used to be teased unmercifully by classmates, my own brothers, even, because I was such a tender-hearted kid. I hated it then, but now, I am happy that I am in touch with what I feel, and that I have a tender heart!

zoozee In reply to Leanndra51 [2006-08-07 14:01:32 +0000 UTC]

Oh yes same here !!

I got teased a lot too as a kid in school .... all untill I was 12 and we moved
away so I had to change school. What a change - everything got so much better!!

Today I am thinking ..... I would not be the person I am today ... If I had not
been through all that back then !!

One of the biggest reasons for me being teased and harrassed -- and beaten up -
was because they wanted to tease and beat up all the kids coming from
a fosterhome - you know a home for kids with no Dad nor Mom.
They wanted me to tease and beat them too .... but I refused.
Then they said ... if you refuse ... you will be a target yourself - - and if you
do not do what we say right away ... it will be your turn come next brake.

OK .... I got the message ...but could not make myself do anything bad
to those kids. My Mom lost her parents when she was very little ... and she
had told us about it .. we visited the place she grew up .. and got to know
the kids that were there then - we got to know the nuns that ran the place
etc. So ...my sister and I got many playfriends from there ... so I could not
beat up any child that was in that sad position ... not having parents !!

SO .... yes .... they beat me up - the others - I hated going to school -
it was one big terror for me ...

Leanndra51 In reply to zoozee [2006-08-07 19:36:26 +0000 UTC]

Well, Bless your heart! It is amazing how cruel children can be, isn't it? I never understood that, except that I think it is that if we don't fit the mould according to the masses, then something is 'wrong' with us! Well, I will remain the different person that I have always been! I agree with you. Our trials, tribulations, failures, all those things teach us about life, and we do become stronger because of it!
I was so miserable in school that when I reached the age of 17, I dropped out of school. Went back 13 years later, took the GED test cold, and passed it. Even went to college for a while, but I couldn't work full-time, raise my daughter full-time, and go to college full-time. So I dropped out of it! But that is another of those things that is a highlight in my life, getting my diploma!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

zoozee In reply to Leanndra51 [2006-08-08 01:17:17 +0000 UTC]

Yes .. children are cruel .. for the most part - it is like they are kind of a wolfpak
they want all to be the same - and if you are not exactly like them - then you
are an outcast - and it is ok to beat you up ... intimidate you ... tease you and
harrass you.

I can tell you that at the new school ... there was someone that was trying to
be nice to me .... and I was so used to them being mean ... that I fought
against the kind gesture. I was simply not used to anyone really trying to be
nice.

You have been doing really well Lea !!
And if you want your diploma ...you will get it too

Leanndra51 In reply to zoozee [2006-08-09 19:01:49 +0000 UTC]

I DID get my diploma. 13 years after I dropped out of school! You know, I always wondered how those kids like that grew up. What kind of adults did they become?? I was just glad to get out of my home town, and never kept in touch with hardly anyone there. They can do a real number on you!
