Thank You, I use very little tools for editing. Most people use Photoshop, but all my work is done with GIMP and Paint.Net.

I use the smudge tool and color curve a lot.

The guys who flew the first fighters like these were totally crazy but you have to respect them for it.

Bit of a tight spot! So are these 3d models then worked over in p/shop?

The aircraft is from the "Rise of Flight" flight simulator game. I select and stage a dogfight, including time of day, weather, and "fly" the Sopwith and record as a movie. I then edit the movie when I get the perfect screenshot. I then cut and paste the aircrafts to a background that I paint. The aircrafts are painted using my own designed brushes. I use GIMP and Paint.Net for all editing and painting.

Setting up a dogfight and editing the movie may take 2-6 hours before I find the right scene.

I am an ex-pilot that still enjoys flight simulation games and I have a commercial art background.

Thanks for the feedback.

Ah, that's interesting, never occurred to me as a resource to provide a source image, but something I should look into.

Just how many of these Fokker D. VIIIs actually saw action in combat?

During its short time in service, it had little time to prove its worth. It was agile, easy to fly and proved to be an excellent fighter. Some considered it a worthy rival to the bigger and more powerful D.VII.

Jasta 5 was issued a D.VIII. The famed ace Erich Lowenhardt used the aircraft for a short time and scored a few victories in it, but he continued to favour the Fokker D.VII.

A total of 381 aircraft were produced, but only some 85 aircraft reached front-line service before the Armistice. Some reached Holland, Italy, Japan, the United States, and England as trophies, but most were scrapped in accordance with the terms of the Armistice.
