You're welcome! Heh, I remember I found the Braids Neon game a couple of years back on some random forum I was looking at when I was trying to find a good stick figure flash cartoon to watch... I've always had fun dinkin' around with that game.

Hi, I recently discovered your Hydralisk guide and step 11 is REALLY hard. I've also looked at your step 11 video, and still haven't figured how to do the step, could you make Step 11 more detailed?

axcho In reply to dragonic123 [2008-12-31 23:12:16 +0000 UTC]

Hmm. I'm sorry to hear that you're having such trouble with Step 11... After the video, I'm kind of stuck for ideas about how to explain it. Do you have any suggestions on what I could add to make it more detailed?

Thanks for the feedback.

Yeah, a lot of people have mentioned that. I'm planning on making a video of folding that one step. Hopefully that will help.

Hello, Axcho. I'm Retron from Kongregate. I heard that you are interested in creating a premium game. It just so happens I am also interested. I'm mainly an artist, and heard your mainly a coder (although I'm not too sure). Samples of my work can be found on this page:

[link]

That job was rushed, I can do much better. Okay, so, I'm proposing a collaboration. Please respond with your thoughts. Best of luck.

axcho In reply to shockplug [2007-11-18 03:47:12 +0000 UTC]

Hi. Yes, I'm mainly a coder, though I'm an artistic coder.

So what sort of collaboration would you like to do? I assume you're talking about a Flash game. Do you have a particular game in mind? Something big? Something small?

It will be a while (a year?) before I will even consider making a Premium Game, but I do plan to make a lot of smaller games before then. Go ahead and reply in a note so we can continue this conversation privately.

IvoryDrive In reply to axcho [2008-01-20 23:32:51 +0000 UTC]

man, making a premium game would be amazing. don't those fetch a minimum of ten grand or something silly like that?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

axcho In reply to IvoryDrive [2008-01-21 20:15:49 +0000 UTC]

"anywhere from $20,000 to $100,000" [link]

Of course then you actually have to make the thing. But hey, someday...

I never heard back from shockplug, by the way. Not sure why.

I'm curious what made you decide that Black wasn't going to work out. Was it the difficulty of programming AI? Because what you had so far was really cool. Or are you still trying to finish it?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

IvoryDrive In reply to axcho [2008-01-21 23:28:59 +0000 UTC]

I'd rather turn it into a little defense game or something, where enemy units are sent out at you and you just have to build up and defend instead of launching crap back at them. ai is tuff stuff, but I had it mostly down. it would just make collision and everything a lot simpler if the enemy wasn't building while you were.

but... mostly I'm lazy and I wanted to go on to something else. I like making engines more than I like making games.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

axcho In reply to IvoryDrive [2008-01-24 01:58:22 +0000 UTC]

Well, I can appreciate that sentiment. By the time you finish an engine, it can be hard to feel like going through the trouble of turning it into a game.

Maybe you should find a way to profit from your engines and let the rest of the world enjoy playing them, by working with another developer to turn them into full games. I doubt that I'd personally be up for it but I can't imagine it would be too hard to find someone willing and qualified. If you want, I can ask around. Let me know.

IvoryDrive In reply to axcho [2008-01-24 07:57:45 +0000 UTC]

good idea. it'd be fun to release them as is, with a link to my own site and generate a bit of traffic for my google ads just as interesting engines to play around with.

any tips on step 11 for the hydralisk? I find it hard, but refuse to give up

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

axcho In reply to jasonost [2007-11-07 01:35:04 +0000 UTC]

Here are a few more tips:

Make sure you are using paper colored on one side and white on the other. It will be easier to match with the instructions.

Pay attention to which folds are in towards you (valley folds) and which are away from you (mountain folds). The help section shows all the symbols.

Looking at the instructions in full view mode might help, if you're not doing that already.

axcho In reply to jasonost [2007-11-05 04:36:47 +0000 UTC]

Hmmm, not sure what more I can say. It sounds like you're working from the latest instructions, right? [link]

In the comments on the original, I tried describing it in words, but I don't know how helpful that would be. [link]

If that doesn't do it for you, I guess all I can recommend is to do a bunch of other origami stuff, maybe free-folding and experimenting on your own, and then come back to it weeks (or months) later with a fresh eye. Good luck.

Hey, thanks for the comment I tried your mad origami thing but I've given in at step 11! I don't think I'm cut out for this paper folding business!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

axcho In reply to gunshydaffodil [2007-09-18 06:25:17 +0000 UTC]

You're welcome!

Well, that's the hardest step, so don't feel bad. Paper folding isn't really that hard, it just takes practice, like anything else.

It's just a matter of choosing what you're interested in and devoting the necessary time to it. Maybe you like focusing on photography. That's fine.

Luckily, I did all my paper folding when I was little, so I don't have to practice it any more.

Hey,
the best i can say is if you have some basic knowlege of drawing, color theory and composition just open a canvas and paint from references and you can use your own pics, they look realy good, nature is great to learn/practice.

This tutorial is very useful [link]

Have fun
