oh hey there, this is Exilement from SP, remember me? I'm the one who came up with the initial idea for Dejeweled. What ever happened with that anyway?

Hey, Exilement/Prospect/kysoramusic, of course I remember you! How's it going? Nothing's happened with Dejeweled, it's still a good idea, and still on the back burner. Want to work on it again sometime?
You can see what's new with me on my blog: evolutionlive.blogspot.com/

Hi there! I stopped by to say hello. I never sent you a link to the children's book I illustrated because it never got an ISBN #. We're waiting on publishing a second edition, perhaps coming in Nov 2013. I've been doing illustrations for myself though, so it proves to be a medium I am enjoying. What's new with you?

Hey, good to hear from you! How did the children's book turn out for you?
News for me is that I got a new job at Linden Lab and moved to San Francisco. There's a bit about it on my blog: [link]

The first edition of the book was kind of upsetting. The author got it self-published, and the printing company didn't even scan my original paintings, so the blue tones were missing. The way the author wanted it was also a mess. After showing it to his daughter (whom the book was partially written for) did she basically tell him, BIGGER SCANNED PICTURES and less words. The author realized that it needed help, and was going to get a second edition published, possibly this holiday season.
Congrats on moving and working!!
I still have your info about how to make NW Coast art saved....due to my studies in mythology, I now know a bit more about Raven, and will try my hand at it all again after grad school is completed.

Ah, too bad about the book. :/ Hope the second edition goes better.
And thanks. Feel free to get back to the NW art stuff whenever - it will be there when you're ready!

Hi!
Really keen to learn more about Pacific Northwest Coast art and expand my skills and saw on that you were offering help and support for learners

Yes, hi! I'd be glad to guide you through the beginnings of learning Pacific Northwest Coast art.
First of all, do you have the book Northwest Coast Indian Art , by Bill Holm? If not, I'd suggest you get your hands on a copy - it will be your textbook.
For your first assignment, I'd like you to find an existing piece of Northwest Coast art, and try to copy it as faithfully as possible, and then upload your drawing and send me a link so I can see it. Make sure it's an authentic piece - I don't want you picking bad habits inadvertently!
Then read the comments I wrote on these two practice drawings from another beginner: [link] [link]
Let me know when you've got something for me to look at!

Hey ~axcho! I didn't give up on NWC art...I just got into a project where I ended up illustrating my first children's book. It's on its way to publication. I will let you know when I get back to it!

Thanks. Well, Dejeweled progress is paused for the moment while I slowly become less newb-ish and incompetent at the whole designing and programming games thing.
Once I have proven that I can make a simple game that is actually popular (so far I have failed at that, hehe), I will set my sights on the big project, Dejeweled.
I am still dedicated to the project, and I think it will be worth doing well, and taking to other platforms like Facebook and iPhone and iPad and such, so I want to make sure I do it right.

Axcho,
I am glad to see you are making new sketches!
Say...How can I get into the video game music/sound effect biz?

axcho In reply to ForrestLucero [2011-05-14 23:33:44 +0000 UTC]
Hmm, good question. What part of game audio are you aiming for, exactly? Small indie games, medium-sized casual games, or big console games?
I guess the best way to get started is to make sounds for games, even for small indie projects, and build up a portfolio that way. Let me know if you need my help with connections.

Yes yes! I have a full set-up now. A lot of 8-bit crackling/ distorted/ rust-crusted/ sounds and beats I want to utilize

axcho In reply to ForrestLucero [2011-05-31 05:29:58 +0000 UTC]
Maybe send me a note (or email) with more details? I'm working at a casual game company now - a lot of casual game developers hire Somatone for their game audio, and I might be able to get you a contact there just to ask some questions about the business.
Also, I can try connect you with Spry Fox (Bunni, SteamBirds) for the indie side of things...
Anyway, talk more in private.

Hey- I read a little while ago that you do some programming? I was interested in what programs in particular you specialize in..?
Flash, I would assume by your ID, but any others?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
axcho In reply to Zaeta-K [2010-05-17 07:53:30 +0000 UTC]
Just Flash, these days. Though I've started to play around with iPhone programming a bit.
I've done some C, C++, and Java stuff in the past, but Flash is what I specialize in.

Zaeta-K In reply to axcho [2010-05-17 12:42:41 +0000 UTC]
Cool-
My reason for asking is I've been wanting to break into the game industry, and I'm always looking for some opportunity for practice before I go to college and do some "serious" learning.
Would you be interested in making some type of collaboration game project? It wouldn't have to be anything fancy (the games in your gallery are great, by the way). I don't know a whole lot about programming, but I was hoping that we would be able to make an efficient team, with my art skill and your programming skill.
It's just proposition, so feel free to decline. Like I said, I'm just trying to really get all the practice I can get in before I'm already in the business and have no real experience.
Here's a link to my portfolio if you're interested- [link]
Thanks for your time!

I like your art. I read your comic too. I take it you're hoping to break into the industry as an artist?
I'm kind of busy at the moment, but we can certainly start talking about a collaboration. I like collaborations. And making a game (lots of games) is a very important step if you want to get into the industry. I'm still working on that part myself.
So, do you have anything in particular in mind? How big of a project are you looking for? Any types of games you prefer? Any styles of art you want to work on?
Let me know.

Zaeta-K In reply to axcho [2010-05-28 16:03:37 +0000 UTC]
Awesome!
Glad you liked my stuff.
I wouldn't want to start out a really rigorous collab, as I don't really know what's fully involved with a flash game; the last thing I want is to go in over my head and have something unfinished.
I guess a REALLY basic 2d platformer would be the game of choice- is that a realistic goal?
Thanks again for the assistance!
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
axcho In reply to Zaeta-K [2010-05-28 17:17:37 +0000 UTC]
Definitely important to start small. A platformer shouldn't be hard to do, especially with the Flixel engine: [link]
So if you want to do all the art, animation, and level design (and story where applicable) I'd be happy to code it up for you and offer design advice.
Let me know when you have a specific idea in mind. Send me the details in a note.
