I am a Servant of the Secret Flame: My path is best described at Mystic. It includes, Mystery traditions of Egyptian and Greek origins as well as Qabala, Hermetic and Alchemy praxis, High Magick, Rosicrucian and Gnostic elements, all with a profound love of Nature and immanent divinity. I studied Healing and Divine integration under a Mistress for about a year, before she moved to Phoenix in 2002.
I'm about 1/3 of the way through a manuscript titled The Way of a Heretic, which should be ready for publishing by Beltane.
I am seen as a Priest, Elder and Fool and am active in whatever local pagan community I find myself in, but as a Solitary practitioner of late.
I experienced Death during Heart surgery in 1963 and found that I was able to capture inspiration through art at an early age. During my education my work was often honored by others and some was published, but these early works were destroyed by the Hells Angels in the High Desert of California over two decades ago. For almost twenty years my primary artistic endeavors were Bonsai.
As for my name...
My mundane and mystical names are essentially the same; I had a suspicion that my paternal grandfather was a "secret Jew," essentially a Jew who pretended to be Xtian when he emigrated from Ukraine during the Russian revolution. Years before I began my path, or the research for my book, one of my attorneys who is Jewish and whose family originates in the same general area as Ukraine (Southern Poland), informed me that the second part of my last name was the equivalent of Jacob, (yakob, phonetically). I later learned in my studies that the meaning of the name Jacob is Pillar and that the first part of my last name Zay (pronounce Zi w/long i) was a contraction of Zayin (Zi-en), which is the 7th letter of the Hebrew alphabet. Since letters also represent numbers in Hebrew, my last name literally means 7th Pillar. So, my mystic name: Alexander, 7th Pillar of Sophia, reflects the hidden meaning of my mundane name. And Sophia? Whose name means wisdom? Ahhh... she's the goddess I relate to best. There are 7 Pillars of Ancient Wisdom; the 7th is: "There is no Death."

You're very welcome. I've been away a while, please pardon my lack of comment as I relearn my way around.

Thank you so much!
Since this was the first time I ever entered a piece into a competition I never expected anything more than than great critiques to learn from.
It's an incredible honor on two counts, because it comes from fellow artists and because it comes from Pagan kin.
Thank you all for your support and guidance.

Hi there!
Blessed Ostara!
Long time...
...haven't had a chance to wade though all the deviations in my inbox. But I bet you have something wonderful hiding in there for me to discover.
I have the convention piece to finish up, then for something a bit more inspired.

Blessed Ostara to you as well my friend
Actually, I haven't finished anything since The Shaman .
I'm working on one, but it's taking me a long time. I'm doing a painting for a friend on here...as the Goddess Selket. I'm having a great time with it...but it's taking forever. I just finished up the scorpion on her headdress. I'm working on her dress, trying to make it look like pleated filmy gauze...but it's really hard to do. Eventually I'll get it done. Some of them fly by and others take me forever. I have to decide what to do for the background as well.
I also want to do something for Walpurgis/Mayday. I have tons of ideas...just never enough time.
How's the new job going? Hope all is well and you're that much closer to your tablet
Bright blessings to you!!!!

Thank you...
... I came upon a piece that used your Portrait Outside as a reference/model and just had to check out more of your work. Absolutely beautiful. I'm hoping I'll have reason to ask permission to reference your work moving forward.

Thanks so much, we took hundreds of photos of the dawn in that beautiful spot over the course of six moons. While we don't think of ourself as a photographer, the eye of an artist sometimes sees the beauty that others do not.
Love the nautilus; would love to use it as a model but don't know that we'll ever get a chance to. The beauty of the work is more than enough.
Thanks again.
