I only got to about 1/6th of my goal (which was 30k) but I've plotted out a lot of the book and made good progress on the actual structure of the story so I'm happy with what I got done. Would have liked to have written more, but it's a marathon not a sprint, as it were, haha. And, thanks! I had a lovely birthday.

Hello!
On behalf of #SixWordStories , I would just like to welcome you to the Group!
We have many ways for you to get involved. If you have past stories, just submit them to Freestyle , and it'll be accepted if it is a proper story. We also have Prompts, but they're a bit more restrictive... More information about them is displayed here . We have listed our guidelines here , which includes our definition on What is a Six Word Story? to help you.
If there are any queries, please don't hesitate to contact us! More of our Happenings are displayed on the right hand side of our front page.

Definitely. I don't care for overlong pieces or excessive description. I feel like that will force the novel I'm writing to be a novella, lol.

Coeb In reply to A-Wandering-Man [2012-11-19 05:41:38 +0000 UTC]
Oh! Your writing a novel? NaNoWriMo?
Plus, I agree with you on that. 'Sides, not many people can pull it off without rhyming too much, making it a song, or repeating things. I sure cant; doesnt mean I dont practice though, haha.

A-Wandering-Man In reply to Coeb [2012-11-19 05:52:21 +0000 UTC]
Yes, but not for NaNo. Something I've been working on for a long time. Still don't have much, though.

Ah. If you ever get it done to publish it, be sure to tell me! ^^ I'd love to read it. I'm writing a novel myself; made the plot a few months back and using NaNoWriMo for motivation to get it all sketched out. Then I'll be using the rest of the year to get it refined (probably most of it rewritten) and maybe to publish.

A-Wandering-Man In reply to Coeb [2012-11-20 06:59:35 +0000 UTC]
I'll make sure to send you the manuscript (if you promise to send me the manuscript for yours, that is!), but I think it's a few years off yet.
And I hate to discourage but I'm doubting any publishing company will consider anything from a 13/14 year old (though I'm sure your writing is well beyond publishable quality) -- might be difficult to find a publisher for a few years. Your writing style will evolve, too, as you get older. Mine certainly did. I look at my writing from when I was your age and my whole style has changed dramatically; and luckily, for the better. lol Judging by your current level of writing, though, I don't think you'll see too much change -- you're already pretty damn good in a technical sense, though I've little idea where you are in terms of developing intriguing plots and the like. If I were to guess, though, I'd say you're up to the task of crafting a masterpiece.

I had the same doubts! My mother is convinced, however, that a client of hers (a hairstylist, meets quite a bit of people it seems) is an editor. I believe her, editors are beginning to get quite common, and he possibly knows some good publishers. I've been waiting to talk to him for quite a while now; I wonder how it'll go. c;
I actually find it encouraging to be young and have a chance at getting something published; all my favourite authors are mostly in their late 60's , and taking that in mind, when I was younger I wrote nonstop. I've improved more in the last year than I have in my lifetime without it, haha.
When you do get your novel finished and out there, I find no reason that I won't read it in any form there is. Youve already got a follower!

A-Wandering-Man In reply to Coeb [2012-11-21 04:14:34 +0000 UTC]
It really depends on who you go to -- if you've got a personal connection, that's a good start. I was thinking more that if you send a manuscript in to a publishing place that you don't know, they'll look at your age and not even bother reading it. But if you've got a personal connection or an editor working with you, I'd say you're good to go.
My favourite writer is actually still in his 20s, I believe. Christopher Paolini -- wrote the Inheritance Cycle, heard of it? Really good. He started writing his first book at 15. So I geuss I'm a little behind! LOL
And thanks for your faith in my novel, it does mean a lot to me.

Coeb In reply to A-Wandering-Man [2012-11-21 04:34:04 +0000 UTC]
Yes! I've heard of him and his books. I havent read them though, but there very popular where I am. Paolini seems to be a great rolemodel! Let those who judge young authors judge, we'll only prove them wrong. c;
Nah, I dont got faith in your novel, I've got faith in you. Its from your mind that the words appear; and from your mind that the hand knows where to move. A novel may be a noun, but it doesnt control whats written on its pages. Thats the authors job!

You should definitely read them. The last two are over 800 pages (the first being around 450 and the second being around 700 if I remember correctly) but they're very worth it.
I suppose you're right. Perhaps your (and my friends' in person) support will eventually motivate me to work on it on a regular basis, lol. I actually had an idea for it earlier today, better write it down now...
