I just wish the Chrono Trigger fanart wasn't recognised by everybody as my best work, it doesn't have any ME in it. The only talent it took was observation. It's like the difference between painting a picture exactly like your model and painting a picture with your model in an original pose or of something completely original altogether. There's no satisfaction on hearing how good it is, because none of your actual talent went into it, ya know? All this time since I made that picture, I've been trying to make my original works stand up to its quality. It's just my mind can't quite visualize shading as well as my eyes can see it in a model image. Every time I get a compliment on my Johnny fanart, it just reaffirms that I still have a lot more work to do.

aw dude, i see it different.
most if not all works come from some form of model refrence. yah sure there are the greats out there that can just pull a fully shaded and renderd life like image rigth out of their brians, but those artists are few and far between. It takes skill to see an image and transfer it through your head and out into a different medium. unless you used some sort of a "ASCII filter" to make it, the task of transforming a picture into a series of colons and random symbols has some fucking talent to it.
And im not gonna disagree with the fact that the johnny piece is one of your stronger ones, but dont condem it for the fact that refrence was used.
Your mind wont be able to visualize dynamic shading on an original model until you see, and illustrate, that same shading by using a life model.
maybe i got the tone of your message wrong, but dont be so hard on refrenced work, its where we all started.

Greetings, thanks for the comment! The entire theme of Megaman X has seem to taken that route, actually. Especially in X8 when X really starts to question his lifestyle because what Lumine told him makes alot of sense...but Zero and Axl reassure him he is on the right path, but that only seems to deter him from fighting even more, Capcom finally got their heads out of their asses for x8..
