I loved the song itself, though I feel like the singing was a little quiet and flat (which is the problem I have when I'm recording because I'm not recording in a sound proof room - I can't get as loud as I should be).

That's fair.

Lack of sounding proofing wouldn't make a recording quiet; it would just make it muddy/introduce unwanted reverb.
