I know the feeling entirely, I've been completely stuck until recently; I'm running an RPG through a facebook group, so that's giving me something to work on.

Hope so. I'm glad I had some free time and will to spend on personal projects and emprove my work during christmas holidays. But also having a project from outside to work on is very motivational when you're stuck.

Photoshop CS5 and Adobe Illustrator most of the time, but I often start sketching on a piece of paper and then scan it. My favourite traditional tools are pencils and watercolors, I use these two when I can. Alchemy also is a great software for digital sketching.

Pencils are probably the only thing I'm good at. XD
I'm too friggen poor to afford photoshop, and the mastery of
watercolor eludes me!

At the very end I believe there's no tool that's better than the others, imho pencils remain one of the most versatile, you can just sketch an idea or create incredibly complex masterpieces or minimal and poetic artworks, you can literally draw in whatever style you choose
