also i wanted to ask u how d u manage to make the colours on watercolour look so RICH and yet transparent. wenever i try to make a colour look transparent by adding water, it decreases the richness of the colour making it look dull.. actually most of my paintings look dull in colour. how do i increase the contrast of colours in my paintings. would be happy to get your advice

Hi, I'm not sure how to advise you, but first you need to use good quality paint and paper! I use Arches-140lb. stretched. Windsor & Newton paint. The pristine white of the paper is what gives the paint the transparent look because the white reflects up through the paint, and of couse you must keep the paints clean so they don't get muddy. The richer the mix, the more contrast and darker colours. I like to wet the paper first and the colours bleed and flow. The more water the thinner and lighter the colour. I hope this helps some. I'm sure I haven't told you anything you don't already know. But very important-if you use cheap materials your work will show it! They say you are only as good as the products you use. Cheers, Ross
