Of course
I don't scan my drawings, so I can't help with that. But I could give you some advice when doing pencil shading.
Firstly, you need to be used the correct pencils! I use the "WHSmith 12 Sketching Pencils" it wasn't very expensive, and it can be purchased online or at a WHSmith store. This set includes the following pencils; 4H, 3H, 2H, H, F, HB, B, 2B, 3B, 4B, 5B and 6B. This is important because some of the pencils produce very light lines, which is great for light areas of shading. While, some pencil produce very dark lines; even when you press lightly. This means that you won't get scratchy lines, because you don't have to press done hard to get dark lines.Β
Shading takes time, it isn't something that can be done in 10 minutes; you need to be prepared to take your time. For example, I'm doing a drawing and I've spent 11 hours, 15 minutes on it and it isn't even finished! (Though it is A3) There are are a few ways to shade;
The circular motions method (circularism) produces shading that fades seamlessly from dark to light. It is when you use a dark pencil, do circular motions, until you change to a lighter colour. Then you use the lighter colour to fade it out, by once again doing circular motions. Normally you need about four different shades; one very dark, medium, light, very light.)Β
There is the cross-hatching method, which produces bold shading. It is when you do slanted lines, then overlap then with slanted lines that go in the opposite direction. You can fade with out by using different tones, but I usually keep to one tone; it depends on personal preference.Β
Hatching is the method where you shade by using straight lines. It is the most commonly used method, as it produces shading that fades from dark to light. So use a dark pencil, press firmly and start to create lines; then slowly keep making your lines lighter and lighter until the pencil won't go any lighter. Then, if need be, use a lighter pencil and carry on doing the same techniques.
Now, there is the stippling method, which is produced by making dots on the paper. Normally, it is done by just using one shade of pencil. To give the effect of darkness, you add lots of dots close together; and as the colour fades out, spread them out and press lightly.
I hope that this hoped, it won't let me add a picture so look at this link for an example of those types of shading - www.google.co.uk/search?q=circ⦠.
I'm sorry that I couldn't help with the scanning part, but let me know if you have any questions!
