I'm an artist who has a bad habit for staying up till ungodly hours of the morning doodling away, and then staying in bed until noon (if i can get away with it).

Why are sports and rap the only things blacks in America aspire to be? I mean, thousands of years of cultural history in music reduced to mindless lyrics and annoying beats. And sports? Why not aspire to do something beneficial for society?

Hmm, I'm sure there are plenty of African Americans who aspire to be something more than rap artists and professional athletes. I have an African American friend who's incredibly smart, and I'm sure she as some great aspirations (We don't get to talk with each other a lot, so unfortunately, I haven't been able to figure out what she aims to do in life). It all comes down to personal choice really

it just seems to be amongst African Americans, there is academic disidentification, meaning, they don't see education as vital to a sense of self worth or self meaning. They, like poor whites, don't see a value in education. Yes, many working classmen aspire to go to school. And they have opportunities. But many lead to crime, sports, or music- people of all backgrounds. I don't believe in affirmative action- I believe education for all levels should be free/so cheap anyone can go to school and receive a good education. I think the system is rigged to benefit wealthy/middle class individuals (who just so happen to be mostly white).

Good point. It's a shame that many lower class individuals, mainly children, aren't able to receive the same sort of educational opportunities as the middle/wealthy class do. It would be wonderful if lower class children - as well as adults who are seeking better education - could get into/through school/college without the need to jump through hoops.
