Can you tell me what your icon is. I think I've stared at it for five minutes and the best I can come up with is "surrealist". XD
PS - That's not meant as an insult and actually a bit of a compliment as I love surrealist art and art that makes me stare and wonder what the hell is going on. XD

BrazillianCara In reply to galacticpink [2013-04-20 07:48:38 +0000 UTC]
I don't mind it at all! I think somebody told me it looked surrealist in another occasion as well...
... when it's actually something a lot simpler. It's just a sprite head of a bird (edited from a couple of Megaman sprites) pasted over a picture of JosΓ© Carioca. It'll make a lot more sense now!

I had to look up who Jose* was. If it's not princesses or Minnie I don't know it when it comes to Disney oops. XD (I actually remember the cartoon, but I never would have been able to do it without a reminder. XD)
*Pardon the lack of proper e there, my alt shortcuts hate me. I get this: β - when I try to do the code that works for that e on other computers. XD

Have you ever read Phantom Tollbooth or Maniac Magee? Went to library and reminded of these enjoyable reads.
π: 0 β©: 1
BrazillianCara In reply to BlazeTotality [2011-07-26 06:57:23 +0000 UTC]
Hm, nope. What are those about?
π: 0 β©: 1
BlazeTotality In reply to BrazillianCara [2011-07-26 07:23:31 +0000 UTC]
Oh, man, I knew Maniac Magee was a kind of shot in the dark but I thought you'd heard--or at least watched--Phantom Tollbooth.
Phantom Tollbooth is best described as "WORDPLAYS, WORLDPLAYS EVERYWHERE". It's about a boy, Milo, who was bored one day and when he came home, found a present--A PHANTOM TOLLBOOTH, and a car. It is all very mysterious and weird but hey, if you're a bored kid, what else are you gonna do but get on the car and see these crazy places like Dictionopolis, Expectations and the Doldrums. Also, for companions he meets a literal watchdog and...
...Give it a try, though. [link]
Maniac Magee would be in the same vein that it's fantastic but only in the telling. The events in the book could have very well happened, but it's told in the manner of a tall tale.
It deals with serious matters (Jeffrey 'Maniac' Magee ran away from home, lives in a deershed and runs around a town, seemingly ignorant of its sharp racial divides) but it never goes dark or brooding.
And the writing could not be to your taste since I have little idea what your preferences are. And they're children's lit but I still think they're quite enjoyable.

BrazillianCara In reply to BlazeTotality [2011-07-26 21:06:04 +0000 UTC]
Wait wait, I know that book! I just forgot most of it... including the entirely different name it had here in Brazil. It has been years, but I definetly remember a watchdog and a kid that grows down.
I don't really have a "taste" when it comes to literature, but I do appreacite books that don't underestimate its reader's intelligence.

BlazeTotality In reply to BrazillianCara [2011-07-27 01:49:16 +0000 UTC]
I kneeeew it. Though I have no wonder, if it's a translation, how they managed to get all the puns and wordplays.
I was thinking writing style. Some people can be turned off by how a subject is told, you know.
...
[link]
I still do suggest borrowing the book since I don't recall so many exclamation marks!
π: 0 β©: 1
BrazillianCara In reply to BlazeTotality [2011-07-30 07:00:01 +0000 UTC]
I'm pretty sure they invented new ones. And left part of them directly translated.
Oh. In this case, I like reading pretty much anything that isn't written like a thesis.
Hmm... I'll take a better look later, when it's not 4 in the morning.

Reading these has unfortunately reminded me of your pitiful existence. I don't even know why I'm posting this, except maybe in the vain hopes that in reading this you will maybe experience something other than pure hate, maybe jollity--nay, amusement--will --for the ever slightest moment! --pump through whatever passes for your heart and blood.
Or maybe you'll just drop dead from all the bad art lolidk
Oh, if the bird's not here well, uh...

...Or you could go for professional respect. I never saw that coming.
"I hated this movie. Hated hated hated hated hated this movie. Hated it. Hated every simpering stupid vacant audience-insulting moment of it. Hated the sensibility that thought anyone would like it. Hated the implied insult to the audience by its belief that anyone would be entertained by it."
Bird, if that's your idea of 'too nice' then I'd hate to see what's 'harsh' in your book.

Probably my own reaction to amateur school plays. But that's probably overreacting.
I was shouting and screaming during that presentation of "My Fair Lady." You were foaming sulfuric acid. Even I think that's a bit too--
Their singing and acting was awful.

BlazeTotality In reply to BrazillianCara [2011-07-26 06:56:50 +0000 UTC]
And you dare call yourself a professional. I scoff at you. SCOFF.
Also, I wish you could have seen my performance at acting a part of Juliet Montague for a school presentation. I bet you would have loved that. (Read: HATED IT)
My Fair Lady/Pygmalion! I've only ever seen the movie version but I did read the play once.

The thought of Carl appearing out of nowhere to attack him is really amusing for some reason. It helps that both have green hair!
But man is he a little over-emotional in this adaptation.

BlazeTotality In reply to BrazillianCara [2011-06-13 15:12:23 +0000 UTC]
Seems a little OoC for him, though. (Oh, hey, I'm learning!)
But Carl had to dye his hair...?!
Carl: Hmm, so there's supposedly a guy who can just talk to pokemon. I don't see what the hullaboo is, any trainer could do it if they just exert a little effort. Like I did! Right, buddy?
Reptile: Tree...cko.
Carl: Hahah, I know!
Reptile:
But man is he a little over-emotional in this adaptation.
I can help with that.

And that's exactly why it would be so amusing! I don't know, I think it's funny.
Oh, he still does.
N: The voice of your pokΓ©mon's heart... it says he wants to evolve.
Carl: What? Nah, you're getting it wrong. Right now he's saying he wants to go for a walk!
N: He wants to evolve.
Carl: He wants to go for a walk!
N: He wants to evolve.
Carl: He wants to go for a walk!
N: He wants to evolve.
