Well for beginners who are still trying out programs, I could recommend 'GIMP' (www.gimp.org/ )
It does have a bit of a learning curve, but after a while it's pretty easy-to-use and can get the job done. : D
And it also offers a tool called 'Paths', it's very helpful for making smooth outlines if you don't have a tablet.
But it's not for everyone, other common ones are Paint Tool SAI, and the newer versions of Photoshop.
I've also heard that 'Inkscape' is good for vectoring though I could not testify it myself.

Sure thing.
Yes, tablets do help out a lot! Would not recommend anything big or expensive for just starting out.
Something around $90-$120 USD can get you a decent one in a small size, and from my experience they last quite a while.

Well according to my knowledge they do (the Wacom ones at least).
However the tablet I picked up was older, and the offer was no longer valid.
So if you're going for a program with it then it'd probably be best to buy one of the newer models.
However I'm not sure what software options they come with nowadays.

Ok thank you very much, I will be sure to get a newer model, and it'll probably take me a while to figure out all the little tricks that digital drawing has, but I'll be opening my etsy shop soon, so I won't be able to go out and get one at the moment. Thanks for all your help
