I love your metal work! How does one go about doing that? I want to make a surprise for my colour guard by making charms that resemble our show this year, but don't know how to go about working with metals...

There are many ways of going about it, some easier than others... depending on what you really want.
The question you would need to ask yourself is how much time do you want to put into learning things, how much money you want to invest, and what do you want them to look like? (eg: Cast/molded like my work, hand tooled wire, cut & tooled sheet metal..etc)
The way I'm working with things right now it has a pretty high investment in both time and money as you need somewhere in the range of $10,000 for cheap old starting equipment, and about 3~6+ months of trial and error learning... But there are cheaper ways if you just want to make a couple of things.
If you don't want to learn how to do casting and invest a lot of money into the equipment but still want a high level of control (eg: you don't want to pay someone else to do the design work) than you have two major options:
#1 Learn wax carving and find a local casting company (You don't want to deal with sending wax carvings though the mail they break to easily.) who will cast them for you.
#2 Learn 3D modeling and find a 3D printing company or person who can print them in a direct casting media and than have a casting company make them for you.

Right now I'm still working on getting everything setup and working so I have a good number of rejects, but the fail rate is dropping nicely and I'm hoping to start taking fully commissioned worked by the time I finish up all the Alliance pendants.
Of course if you don't mind a potential 3~4 week turn around than I'd be more than happy to start working on something for you now!

What I had in mind is a diamond shaped (so basically a square) pin with two fasteners on the back and engraved design on the front. Bout 2 inches along each side.
