I think that most people (on deviantart or in general) prefer viewing visual art over reading poetry. With poetry, you have to imagine what the poet portrays--with visual art, everything is already there. Visual art only requires interpretation of the viewer, whereas poetry requires imagination followed by interpretation from a reader. Really good poetry is like a really good painting--you have a definite imagination of what the poem wants you to see. But most people aren't aware of that and skip reading poetry deviations because of this.

I encourage you to read other people's poetry--even if it's only other poets on deviantart. Find poets whose work inspires you and gives you a visionary goal to which you can aspire.

I encourage you also to watch *TheFavoritesProject and read the featured works. I'm an appraiser there; we feature poems that meet our standards of what an accomplished poem is.
