No, unfortunately. I've never even been to Japan before.

Alright. Thanks anyway. But is it a cosplay event or just a stage performance?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Daidairo In reply to Sovereign64 [2014-04-16 03:34:39 +0000 UTC]
It is not a cosplay event. Attendees are not allowed to cosplay. The voice actors have only recently started to cosplay in recent years, too. It's not all 'performance' either; there are free talk moments and depending on the year, some interaction with the audience. Some people have posted videos of the Festival on youtube; you should watch them to get a better idea of what it's like.

Mm, when it comes to Singapore, I guess most cosplayers don't specifically stick to one group? Thus far, the few Tales cosplayers I've seen around generally work in pairs or trios or solos. It really is difficult to find Tales fans here ;;;;;

Yes, unfortunately. There are a few people who have played one or two Tales, like Abyss and Symphonia, but though they enjoyed playing they don't follow the series as closely so... ;_;

Frankly, so was I XD Six years ago all I had played was Symphonia; I wasn't even aware there was a series involved. But then a friend introduced me to it and ever since then Tales has pretty much become one of the biggest things in my life ;w;''

HAHAHA I do hope that'll gain more fans but... I get the feeling that most new gamers would be turned off by the old-school graphics of it ;;;

aki-lhant In reply to Daidairo [2013-07-15 14:40:50 +0000 UTC]
It's true but consider it's a remake of old game, I think this will attract some old-game lovers since some of them dislike the newer ones
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Daidairo In reply to aki-lhant [2013-07-17 03:39:05 +0000 UTC]
True, but since it's not a remake exactly and most of it will probably be the same, the old players may just be satisfied with the old Symphonia games instead of trying the new ones.
Let's hope that Dual Audio for once will tempt people 8D

DUAL AUDIO THE VERY MAIN REASON WHY I REFUSE TO PLAY TALES IN ENGLISH
Seriously, I only played Tales series in Japanese not only because of its originality, also the VAs associated. From what I heard from Xillia trailers and current Graces gameplay, I swear I won't ever pick them up in English, even though Japanese version takes higher in price. I dislikes the English VAs as they killed off the feel of the characters, if you get what I mean
Not that I don't like Bryce Papenbrook, but I prefer him to voice Guan Ping from Dynasty Warriors than Asbel :/

Personally, I agree with you. In general, Japanese seiyuu do a far superior job in Tales compared to their US counterparts. Partly, I believe, because the seiyuu industry in Japan is really huge and they're always pushed to improve, while in US voice talents aren't all that well known. Partly also because the Japanese seiyuu have the original directors working with them to tell them exactly how to voice a character, to bring out the character as they had imagined, while the US dub studios don't have that privilege. Some people complain that the Japanese voices aren't 'suitable', although that is, I think, a matter of personal taste as well; what irks me more is the lack of acting skills there.
However, there are always going to be a large audience who don't speak a single word of Japanese, and unfortunately, they also contribute to the Tales industry with their money and support, and if they prefer English voices because that is the language they understand, Namdai US will continue to dub Tales games in English. Dual Audio is pretty expensive, after all, and in cases where the JP voice is unavailable, there are many non-Japanese-speaking fans who dislike the English voice yet have no choice but to play it in English and will thus pay for the English version. And when it comes to the higher ups deciding everything, sales and money are very important.
I play Tales in English with some of my friends here because they don't speak Japanese, and although the voice does grate, I guess I just... live with it XD After all, I have the Jap ones at home, and it's really fun to finally be able to play Tales with my friends! I had to wait two years for them to get Graces! ;w;

Thats the part I faced in the past as well to my friends who loves Tales but knowing nothing about Japanese. 2 years ago I tried to RP Asbel on Tumblr and it took me a lot of efforts to tell my friends who interested on it. Part of me did grateful about English dub but some changes in names, plots and character personality somehow bothers me (example the name changes in Xillia 2 recently).
From what I saw from some of my JRPG fanatics, they did ranted about the lack of dual audio system in Tales series, which some companies like SquareEnix and Konami manage to do that on their games years ago. I tried to explain to them on the high cost of dual audio system which involves both East and West, luckily they did listened. Sadly, in some Tales communities there are existence of fans who only acknowledge motherships with English version (typically Symphonia) and denied the others. Some of them even bitching about it, like Symphonia is the ONLY Tales series while others are fake/imposters etc.. I'm not gotta talk more about it, but this made the real Tales fans like us really sad on how narrow-minded they are.
As for my friends who dont understand Japanese, I did some studies on the English names via sources like youtube so that I can talk with them freely.
Oh also, I did talked to a Japanese Graces fan on English version before, and she was quite upset about the lack of "mamoru"ness on Asbel XD"

It's inevitable that some name changes have to occur, but sometimes other name changes baffle me, because I don't understand the reasoning they have behind it. For example, some of the Xillia ones. XD Differences in character personality irk me, too; I actually first began watching the full playthrough of Vesperia in English because my Japanese skills back then were quite basic, but when I played through Vesperia PS3 I realised that there was so much difference in the lines, such as those that Yuri speaks which affects his PERSONALITY. And... I like the Japanese Yuri better. XD
I once spoke to an English-speaking friend about it, citing Pascal as an example. What she replied was something I found true: They had to make Pascal more 'irritating' and 'high-spirited' in the US version because they're playing to the US audience, whose culture is different, so the way they would perceive Japanese!Pascal wouldn't have quite the effect the original creators might want, compared to the Japanese audience. It's unfortunate, certainly, but they must always think of how to market to the Majority, who are unfortunately non-Japanese-speaking-Western-Fans.
I've also seen many Tales fans being big jerks about stuff like that. Claiming that Symphonia and Abyss are the best, Graces is for kids, Hearts is for kids, Destiny sucks... And then there are some who claim that Vesperia was the best and badger Namdai for Vesperia PS3 and hating on Graces and Xillia and Symphonia. I think that everyone is entitled to their own opinions, and if they truly think that Game XX is the best, then that's fine, but when they start yelling about their opinions in everyone else's face and acting like jackasses, that's why I get irritated. XD;
Ah yes, I try to do the same! Although it's hard for me to get used to English names, so I often keep saying KYOUKAN KYOUKAN instead of Malik hahaha. Thankfully, my friends somehow still understand. XD
I spoke to some of my friends on that too! And yes.. I think everyone who plays the JP one has the same opinion on that AHAHAHA. Lack of mamoru, lack of MAMORENAKATTA because I FAILED has nothing to do with protecting, and Mamoritai ~white wishes~ in English pretty much took out all the mamoru and made it a love song. :/

KYOUKAN amg I freaking love this too much than Captain srsly and yeah I do prefer Mamoritai ~white wishes~ more than English ones even though never heard of later one cuz of the mamoru-ness XD not to mention Sakurai's voice much more suitable on Asbel's adorkableness(?) with mamorenakatta

Daidairo In reply to aki-lhant [2013-07-19 05:55:38 +0000 UTC]
I know right?! Kyoukan holds a tone of respect in it that is different from Captain; captain just means the head of a team, but 'kyoukan' itself brings the slight undertone that he is looked up to not just as a leader, but as a teacher as well, and has lessons to impart to the rest of the party.
Sakurai is perfect as Asbel, no argument. \o/

Thats one of the reasons I love Japanese games, the honorific terms that sounds pleased to me, and we know who are the ones being respected or not, also the sense of closeness.
Another thing that really caught me up is Hubert's "niisan"
NIISAN
AMG HU-KUN STOP BEING SUCH AN ADORABLE TSUNDERE
im so obsessed with niisan that i made Ludger call Julius "niisan" instead of by name

Daidairo In reply to aki-lhant [2013-07-21 13:42:14 +0000 UTC]
The Japanese language is very complicated because of all these nuances (I cry so much translating sometimes), but it is because of them that the emotion and expression is always so clear and vibrant.
YES. YES YOU DO NOT KNOW HOW MUCH I LOVE AN APPRECIATE HUBERT CALLING HIM NII-SAN. After he was adopted by the Ozwells, after the bitterness in Lhant at the beginning, when he later called Asbel /nii-san/ willingly again IT SHOWED SO MUCH OF HIS TRUE FEELINGS, OF HOW HE STILL ACKNOWLEDGED ASBEL AS HIS BROTHER. Compared to just 'Asbel'.
....but again, I don't blame the translators too much, because in English one just doesn't call siblings by 'Big Brother'.
//love on Huu-kun SO MUCH LOVE FOR HUU-KUN AND HIS ADORABLE TSUNDERE//
AAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHA I think I chose that one, too. XD

I don't s'pose you'd be willing to do a request or point commish? I saw how well you drew Asbel and was wondering if you could do a "skit" with him, Captain Malik, Flynn Scifo and Yuri Lowell.

Daidairo In reply to XXFanXofX4869XX [2013-06-19 03:36:41 +0000 UTC]
I'm actually up to my head in busy from now all the way until end of July, so I definitely won't be able to take on anything until then.
If it's a 'skit' you're looking for, though, why not just use the existing skit faces that have been kindly ripped by other fans and posted everywhere on google? The only reason I drew them all out was because Namdai's competition asked for original art. ;w;
