# About me
I'm a multimedia artist, specialising in children orientated character design and illustration. I can turn my hand to various styles, and enjoy combining realism with fantasy and whimsical themes.I currently work as a design/illustrator in the card craft industry, however I am always striving to improve the level of my work to make it as a concept artist one day!
I love my sketch book, scanner and photoshop. I also occasionally use maya and mudbox to create imagery

Hey Dawn, I just passed by one of your aceo's and thought, I know this style!!
Turns out I bought three from you on ebay!
You named one of them Sookie after my wee lovebird!!
They're up in my living room in wee frames!

This is a reply to your last comment.Don't know what happened, but I couldn't see it suddenly so I'll paste it here.
" Sounds cute!Casper seems to be a great name. I have 3 bandits at home,a real gang, running, fighting and turning the house upside down
I'm using Maya, though I'm learning it myself. I've used zbrush a little bit and I've got mudbox too (didn't try it yet though). What do you think is more comfortable to use - zbrush or mudbox?Which is better. I saw at forums people rather prefer a mudbox."

Since I model mainly in Maya, I find mudbox a lot better to use for adding detail onto a simple polygonal model, since both programmes are compatible with each other. I know you can bring zbrush models into maya but I'm not sure if you can do it vice versa, whereas I know for mudbox it is possible to transfer the model backwards and forwards into the different programmes. You have to export it as an .OBJ (or something like that) from maya (you need to tick this in the plug in section I think!) and then for ease of use model the image and add extra subdivisions etc as you see fit until you get what you're after.
Zbrush is excellent for quick sculpting of forms, it's just tricky to get used to the interface- I always have a habit of locking the model in place, if that makes sense, and I can no longer model it in 3 dimensions. Mudbox has the same rotate function as does Maya so it's a nice transition ^^

hmm..Now you gave me an inspiration to try it ^_^ To be honest I never sculpted with zbrush - I did what you did with mudbox - imported objs and exporting normal maps. But navigation is a pain indeed. I want to try sculpting too though Damn, so much to learn

he's about 1 year old and approx 2 months now I think-his name is Casper because he's all white :-D. He just wants to be outside on the prowl all the time now!
What 3d software are you using? I did an animation design degree, so was maya trained, alongside mudbox and a bit of zbrush. I should really get back into doing some 3d designs!

Things are quiet at the moment but I'm getting on with my own thing at the mo. looking into doing pet and child portraiture for people as a 'pot boiler'. How's life in scotland treating you?

Loozle In reply to DawnyDawn [2010-02-14 22:13:02 +0000 UTC]
Those pet examples you did were fantastic :] Cool to see you've got a plan, seems a lot of the others have been veeeeery demotivated.
Scotland is awesome. I can't complain at all really, the job is amazing, as are the people. My only issue is not being able to tell anyone anything, show off my work, or finish my iphone game without it belonging to the company >.<

Ah yes, I totally understand that frustration, I have the same problem regarding the kids book I've just illustrated and the animation I did for an american company. Their site launches end of this month though, so i can show people what I've been yapping on about, and regarding the book- well, we shall just have to wait and see if it actually gets published.
It's nice to know you're enjoying scotland, albeit it a bit chilly I'm guessing. Sounds really cool too, the stuff you're doing ^^
Apart from doggy portraits I'm just selling ACEO cards on ebay. Great fun xxx
