yeah. we do maintenance on patrol boats in a marina club used by a bunch of rich Saudi Arabians. that's one of the small ones believe it or not. the picture was taken from inside one of our boats.

i wish. it offers a better breeze, but other than that, the humidity and sun heat still rule out here. and the boats themselves are like heat coffins.

The Stand has got to be my favorite by Stephen King. Personally I think it is a fine example of literature and I don't know why it isn't on the list in most Literary Interpretation classes. And as for the unedited version, the more pages it has the better.

I agree. its a classic example of the Good vs. Evil theme, and how the redemption or damnation of mankind is purely our own choice. not many people get to read it because it is so damn LONG!

If I received that as the thesis of a student's paper, they'd be on their way to an A (I'm majoring in English Literature, with the aim of teaching college). And as for the length of the book, I rarely read anything under 500 pages. And there are so many themes/ideas/concepts in The Stand it's no wonder it's over 1,000 pages.

true. especially since the unedited edition goes completely in depth to each person's background. And you're missing out if all you read is over 500 pages. one of the most mind-bending books i ever read was Flatland, and the thing was only 80 pages including preface and intro. that book messes with your head so much it'll make your nose bleed.

I never exclude a book because of its length, I just prefer those with lots of material. But now that you mention Flatland (isn't that by Asimov?) I think I'll go look for it. I could use a good brain-twister.
