Where did you learn to make suits like that? We did a little at uni my large bunyip was an enjoyable experience but if i had to do it again i would do it very differently.

I wish I could give you the easy answer and put it down to magic, but all I can say is practice, asking heaps of questions and spending my days in front of Youtube. The ones presented on the profile were actually made by two other artists though; I get the joy of spreading the happiness and bringing them to life.
I recently started up my own studio though, as I'd like to try my hand at fabrication/costume building and find it really fascinating and creative.
The Bunyip sounds pretty interesting, and the spider is just ace! Can I ask where you learnt to do the prosthetics for the Troll?
Thank you for the watch Mate, much appreciated.

I studied prop making for theatre and film which i did for many years but on the way i was side tracked by molten metal and really found a job that was the perfect fit working full time in the arts and honing my skills as a sculptor, but i really love the furs and puppetry so much.
Prosthetics was done for part of the coarse it is not as hard as people would have you think you can make some incredible effects for very little money, but i have never had the urge or the need to do it again for any job i have been on. Although it was where i was introduced to alginate the molding stuff they use for teeth and i love it to take teeth and hand molds and alike. If you are in Sydney we sell all sorts of materials at the gallery at north head.
I have a big box of fake fur i collected years ago and one day I look forward to using it to make some beautiful puppets but oh so very busy.

Hey Phil,
Thanks for the reply. I'm based in Canberra at the moment, although it'd be great to catch up some time in Sydney; I'll actually be attending the SupaNova convention in June if you'd like to do a little meet up?
Did you study prop making at Uni, or was this back in school? I'd love to know the institute if there is one, the same goes with the prosthetics.
At the moment, I've been attending Webinar classes from the Stan Winston School of Character Arts; they've been extremely helpful!

I had a good look at the supanova site last night looks like fun. And i would love to say gday if you head up this way.
I attended the Theatre crafts coarse at the National institute of dramatic art they have three strands to choose props sets or costume but the is understandably a large overlap so you learn a bit of everything, at the time it was one of the only places you could go to study that sort of thing although now there are many more options. some of my peers have noted they wished they had done the design coarse so it was more of their own vision they were creating though i understand the structure of the coarse has changed now for that reason.
I also just got onto the stan winston mailing list its pretty awesome that they share their knowledge like that,

Awesome, it'd be a delight to finally meet you if you wanted to make SN an official get-together. I'll be attending both Sat 14th and Sun 15th, while celebrating my birthday. If you're interested, we can exchange details via PM.
Uh yes, NIDA. I've been considering auditioning there myself. Thanks for sharing!
Oh for sure; it's great to see people like that willing to share their knowledge and expertise with others.
