Okay, so I know you aren't a fan of HedgeMaria from the Sonic fandom, but I'd like to ask you a serious question. Oh, first off, I am guilty of drawing HedgeMaria, (Although I absolutely love Maria Robotnik the way she was born) and I am making a fan fic about HedgeMaria. However, I am not offended by anything you or anyone else has said about HedgeMaria and I am not trying to attack anyone that doesn't like HedgeMaria. I just legitimately want to know something.
If HedgeMaria had a different design from what you've already seen, an actual REASON for existing (beyond shipping her with Shadow), and if HedgeMaria had the same personality, values, and beliefs as the original Maria, would you still have major issues with her? If so, what would those issues be?

It's hard to say, I think the idea in itself is a flawed one due to the fact that it cheapens her death and sacrifice. Also, why a hedgehog? Why not something else or better yet keeping her as a human? Even if her design is changed, her personality remains the same and she has an actual reason for being brought back to life, you have to wonder if she actually wants to be brought back, considering her illness, the knowledge of the things Shadow and Gerald have done as a result of her death and how she would inevitably become the unwilling center of conflict between Shadow, G.U.N, Robotnik, ect. That's just how I see it however.

I see. So you're saying that Maria would want to stay dead because of what her death did to Gerald and Shadow? That's an interesting thought. I thought that she would want to be alive because she would want to be reunited with Shadow, but maybe she would want to stay deceased.
I don't think it cheapens her sacrifice. For example, when Piccolo died in Dragon Ball Z, to save Gohan from Nappa's attack, it changed Gohan from a scared little kid, to a brave warrior. Piccolo's death gave him courage to fight against opponents that were bigger and stronger than him, namely Nappa, Vegeta, Frieza (in his 2nd, 3rd, and final forms) and eventually Cell, who he defeated almost on his own. My point is even though Piccolo was brought back to life, Gohan's character was permanently influenced by his sacrifice. This is how I would see Maria's resurrection to Shadow's character.
Why a hedgehog? Good question. I don't really know. I guess anything else would be... random? In fan fics, Maria's resurrection is usually due to Shadow's DNA or something and he's a hedgehog. So... yeah. XDDDDD I guess the reason why she's not human is because it would be easier for people to image a Mobian coming back from the grave rather than a human. It could also be to cure her of her disease. I think that's why.
It's fine, I just wanted other people's opinions on the matter. You bring up interesting points, sir. ^^

I just think she wouldn't want to be the center of fighting and conflict, we all know if somebody brought her back to life like Dr. Robotnik or G.U.N, it wouldn't be out of the kindness of their hearts, it would be for some selfish purpose ie: information she knows about Gerald's experiments, the ARK, the Eclipse Cannon, ect. Also, how happy would she be if she were brought back to life as something that wasn't even human anymore? And in a time when everyone she knew and loved is either dead or had changed so much they wouldn't be the same person she once knew? Gerald, her parents and everyone she knew on the ARK is gone and Shadow isn't the kind, happy guy she once knew as he had since become dark and violent and even attempted to destroy the world once. I just don't like the idea of this, especially considering that many HedgeMaria writers would use these very points I brought up as a lame excuse to ship her with Shadow because now she's all alone.
Also, on a side note, why is it always Shadow's DNA? You'd think if they needed more genetic material to fill in the blanks and clone her they'd use another human's like Dr. Robotnik's, especially considering they're related. I don't mind that you like HedgeMaria, but it just doesn't make a lot of sense to me and it feels like abusing a character for the purpose of shipping. That's how I see it at least.

This is true. They would have other intentions and would probably abuse her for their own selfish reasons. And coming back just to find out that everyone you know and care about is dead or has changed into dark violent people would be hard to come to grips with. Coming back in a non human body would definitely be weird too. You bring up a lot of valid points.
I think using Shadow's DNA would be best because Shadow is immortal and impervious to disease, so taking this into account, Maria would no longer be sick and would never have to worry about dying again really. This is how I see it.

Thanks for the faves man, really appreciate it. Sanke Lenna desperately needs attention...people seem to completely ignore my drawings of her, for some annoying reason. Same goes for a lot of my other characters, as long as they don't have "interesting" looking armor or something...but I guess I'll have to settle for the fact that if what I draw isn't ponies, or weapons, or mechanical or armor designs, it probably won't be popular.
*sigh*

Hey man, don't let it get to you. How do you think I feel considering that my most popular piece of art is "Mount Poopmore", something I made in five minutes as a joke?

Oh god, I actually have something resembling your situation, believe it or not. Don't get me wrong I AM grateful for the 40-110 on average faves my ponies, guns, mecha, etc. can amass over the course of several months, because I actually put effort and creativity into them. The same can't be said for my most popular deviation of all time , though...it's just a stupid Lolcat I made back in late 2007 in less that five minutes using the Lolcat Builder on icanhascheezburger.com, and the text wasn't even my idea, it was my friend's idea. Look, just LOOK at the obscenely-large amount of faves and views it has, when compared to stuff I actually put effort into. The worst part is, people are finding it REGARDLESS of the fact that it has a completely-unrelated title, is in my scraps, and has only ONE tag (which is the same as its title.) It's like the sad, sad opposite of a logic-defying miracle. I have tried putting disclaimers urging people to not just favebomb the fuck out of that half-arsed piece of shit deviation, and actually bother to look at the stuff in my gallery that I actually put many hours if not days of time and effort into...but the cause is hopeless, nobody listens, and that's beyond sad. I would delete the stupid picture, but at some level I am amazed that I created SOMETHING that famous, that has almost three-hundred faves by now and thousands of views, that I can't bring myself to do it.

I guess in some way it's something to be proud of, having something that popular, as long as it's not Twilight or something. It seems that certain topics will inevitably attract people. If you take a lot of beautiful photographs and whatnot, but make a single deviation that's "Mario" or "Sonic" or "MLP" or something I can GUARANTEE you that it would probably be your most popular deviation. It's not necessarily a bad thing, it just means that you found something that a lot of people find popular.

Wether to ask some questions in my journal link that I made up while I tagged you when I'm tagged or end the tag cycle by not posting a journal of you being tagged (if you don't feel like being tagged). the former could be optional.
