Rowana examined her drink, the goblet was crystal, its contents were blue and the thick ice mulch covering the mouth of the glass was the coldest thing she had touched since leaving distant Khanduras some decade prior. The glass began to perspire and Rowana found that she had to shift the icy beverage from one hand to the other and back again to stave off the chill.
Rowana did not enjoy being cold. She hadn’t as a child and though it rarely came up in Caldeum she didn’t enjoy it as an adult either.

Rowana Springs excerpt - 1
Rowana’s bed chamber was too small to be a nook but perhaps it was just big enough to be called a cranny. It was a small subterranean cell built into the foundation stones of the Caldeum Senate building, carved almost directly into the bed rock and perhaps a little too closely to the nearby river bank.
It was dry for at least a portion of the year, namely winter when the formerly mighty river that flowed past the senate house froze in its mountain abodes and left only a small downward trickle to pass the building by. However Rowana would be among the first to know when the mountainous areas far from Caldeum experienced its first thaw for when the icy waters raged no small portion of it passed over and even through her cell.
No end of her room could be called “far” and yet at the furthest extent of her apartmen

Vage took a deep breath and felt the cool air rush over her painted lips. As she exhaled the air was cold and dry, she could see the vapors of her breath, moisture stolen from her body evaporating into feint little plumes in front of her. Caldeum had no wet season, at least not anymore but in the winter months it could still become quite oppressively cold.
Perhaps that is why her field hands had found her horse, Skysteed, buried under a large pile of hay. The sleepy pony girl had apparently wormed her way in over night and was loath in these morning hours to come out.
Vage found it hard to blame her…. Though she did anyways as a matter of principle.
The field hands worked tirelessly to rouse the horse and yoke her to Vage’s golden chariot.  None knew better than Vage Azzah, the “Savior of Caldeum” that time was of the essence.

Scarlett started the day with a groan, which wasn’t entirely unusual but some part of her expected to hear something like the usual “uuuuughhhhh” an almost pained almost dissatisfied moan, something like the usual recompense for a weekend spent binge drinking as she surely had. Instead what she heard rumbling out of her already open mouth was a low “hhaaahhh” completely devoid of any of the subtle nuances associated with the common alcoholic rattle….
