Ahahahah, ohman, I know the dilemma... I find that having access to a higher-quality scanner (Epson Perfection series, eg.) really pays off! I used to use this ol' all-in-one scanner-printer-faxing thing, and it's just--bad, man. Strips off so much of the details. :[
But then I found the epson scanner at my school's digital media center and it's just soooo much better to use!
