No, you just have me and Jess as terrible examples. The truth is, we aren't obsessed with fanfiction, we just like some stories so much that we don't want them to end, so we read fanfiction to keep the story alive. And some of the fanfiction is genuinely awesome. It actually has opened my mind to how certain things in stories can be construed in so many different ways, and how characters that I thought would be the only ones that would work in a pairing aren't necessarily the only ones. Fanfiction isn't terrible. It has muchness. Much muchness.
And no, you may not have chocolate. I remember what happened when you had coffee. Not planning to repeat that.

Maybe, but I can't really get over the idea of taking control of someone's characters... it just seems weird. Especially when people make them do things that they really wouldn't do.

I say good on her if she doesn't want people mucking around with her hard work. I love her books, and I know that people would publish horrible badly written things about her characters doing strange stuff and mixing their own Mary-sues into the mess. I'm pleased she's done something to keep it under control.
Mostly I agree that fanfic is harmless. However, when it goes wrong, it goes very wrong. I therefor refuse to be swept up by the craze, or to declare my love for it, because I don't want to have to suffer the dribble that some people create or be branded a fanfic reader/writer, because the majority of fanfic is of bad quality.
Were I an author (which I'm not), I would allow people to write fanfic if they desperately desired, but I would make it clear that I do not thoroughly approve.

Hmm, let me think... From the HELL, to the NO! There is no way on this earth that I would give you chocolate, let alone COFFEE CHOCOLATE. (I would say when hell freezes over, but it's in Norway, where it's probably frozen over for most of the year...)
Anyway, to reiterate (and re-irritate) NO, you may not have chocolate, or coffee chocolate. You may have spinach. And you may have upelkutchen.
